Merlo Station Campus Newsletter

Happy 2026!

Merlo StationCampus NewsletterHappy 2026!

Note from our principal: Note from our principal:

I am excited to welcome both returning and new families to our campus, and we look forward to working with your students this semester. The school year has started off strong, with field trips, guest speakers, school assemblies, and evening events that have enriched our students’ experiences and strengthened our school community.

This upcoming quarter, our focus will be on supporting students’ regular attendance. We know that consistent, in-person attendance greatly increases students’ chances of being successful in school. Each quarter at Community School, students are encouraged to meet three goals: passing all classes, maintaining 85% or better attendance, and having no discipline referrals. Last quarter, many students met these goals, and I am confident we will see continued success this quarter.

This past week, we also celebrated several students who graduated at the end of the quarter by completing all of their credits early. It was inspiring to see the results of their hard work and dedication.

We value our partnerships with families, and one way we strengthen those relationships is through the conferences we host each semester. This quarter, conferences will be held for all new and returning families and students. Conference Day will take place on February 6 and will be a non-school day for CS students; however, all students are expected to schedule a time to meet with their family and focus teacher. More information will be shared soon, and we believe this will be well worth the effort. These conferences help build connections that support students throughout the year.

We are looking forward to the rest of the school year. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Take Care,

Jon Sanchez, D.Ed.

Attendance: Several ways to excuse your student Attendance: Several ways to excuse your student

Always include your students full name, date(s) of absence, and reason. It's also helpful to include a student ID number, however, it's not required.

How to report an absence:

  1. Email: mshs-attendance@beaverton.k12.or.us
  2. Call: 503-356-3650 - Please leave a clear voicemail.

  3. Send a note with your student.

  4. ParentVUE: Guardians have the option to excuse their students through ParentVUE. (Note: This option is only available for full-day absences. Partial-day or past absences must be reported directly to our office using one of the methods above.)

*Please give the office until 3pm to process and upload excused absences.

How to planned an early pick-up/dismissal
Please call, email, or send a note with your student so we can issue a dismissal pass in advance.

Recurring appointments or work accommodations

Does your student need to leave campus regularly at the same time, such as for work or weekly appointments? Guardians should submit a written note to the attendance secretary with the reason, time, and end date. A special dismissal pass will be issued, and students must show it to their teacher and sign out in the front office.

Update to Student Attendance Reporting Update to Student Attendance Reporting

To better support student success and safety, the Beaverton School District is updating how we track attendance for students who leave class during instruction.

Starting Wednesday, January 28, 2026, you may see a new attendance code: LFT (Missed/Left Class) when checking ParentVue.

What it means: The student arrived at class on time but left without permission or was absent for more than approximately 50% of the class period.

Why we are doing this: This distinction helps us identify students who are missing significant instruction time so we can provide timely support and interventions. It also ensures you receive the most accurate information regarding your student's attendance.

If you see this code on your student’s record and have questions, please reach out to our front office at MSHS-Communications@beaverton.k12.or.us
