Principal's Messages 📚

Hello DCES Families,

Happy October! Thank you for all of your support and donations. Our school raised over $40,000!

This past week was filled with rainbows as our TK/K classes learned about the colors of the rainbow. It certainly made campus a bright, colorful, and cheerful place to be. I was able to spend time out at recess this week, and play with many of your students. They beat me in every game, from wall ball, to soccer. Let’s just say I’m not as young as I think I am!

This next week is supposed to be hot. Please make sure your child is wearing light clothing and bringing a water bottle with them. We will limit their outdoor activities as well to support students staying out of the heat.

I have enjoyed being at Deer Canyon and getting to know all of you and our students. Have a wonderful weekend, stay cool, try to beat the heat and GO PADRES!

Mrs. Gordon

Caught You Being Kind!

Through our schoolwide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, Caught Being Kind, students are recognized by a staff member for exemplifying respect for themself, others, or the environment. I am excited to share with you the names of individuals who were Caught Being Kind last week!

Celebrating National Music Day

October 1st was National Music Day, and we celebrated the wonderful role music plays at Deer Canyon!

We are so grateful for Mrs. Jori Krick, our 5th Grade Band Teacher, and Mr. Dan, the Music Man, our TK through 4th Grade Music Teacher, for bringing music, creativity, and joy to our students each day.

Music helps students build confidence, creativity, collaboration, and self expression, while giving them a chance to explore new talents and simply enjoy the joy of making music.

Thank you, Mrs. Krick and Mr. Dan, for sharing your love of music with our Deer Canyon students!

Happy National Music Day!

Celebrating National Custodian Day

October 2nd was National Custodian Day, and we took a moment to recognize Mr. Pete and Mr. Tony!

We appreciate the work they do each day to care for our campus and help with the many behind the scenes tasks that keep Deer Canyon running.

Thank you, Mr. Pete and Mr. Tony, for all you do for our school community!

Happy National Custodian Day!

Monster Mash is Coming!

Join us for a spook-tacular night of fun at Deer Canyon Elementary!

Date: Friday, October 30
Time: 5:00–8:00 PM

We Need Your Help to Make It Amazing!

Monster Mash is an amazing event for the kids and families, and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of our amazing parents. We’re looking for volunteers to help with:

• Set-up & Decorations (Thursday afternoon and Friday during the day)
• Event Support (games, food tables, Haunted Houses, and more!)

Event Highlights:

• “Not-So-Spooky” Haunted House (perfect for younger kids)

• DJ & Music

• Games & Activities

Food & Treats:

Next week, we’ll send out a pre-order link for Pizza ($5) & Drinks ($2). Pre-ordering guarantees your spot—limited extras will be available at the event.

Family Heritage Night

Family Heritage Night is here!!!

Mark your calendars - Friday,Oct 9th, 5:00 - 7:30pm

Each year, DC students and families get to “take a trip around the world” in one night here at the Deer Canyon MPR.

DC families set up tables with information about their country’s heritage, artifacts, and food samples. There are also multicultural performances and kids’ fashion shows to enjoy. It’s a great way to celebrate and learn about the rich cultural tapestry here at Deer Canyon.

This is a FREE event for our families, but we need your help.
