The Eagle's Nest

Hello Walsh Families,
Happy December! I would like to thank all of our families that attended Parent-Teacher Conferences. Although Winter Break is two weeks away, we have much teaching and learning to do!
Our Holiday Music Program is on Friday, December 19th at 9:00 AM in the Walsh gym. We welcome families to attend. If you are unable to attend, the program will be live streamed on You Tube. The link is below.
Students will go out for recess if the temperature and/or "real feel" is 20 degrees or above. Please assure that your child has a warm coat, hat, and gloves. If you are in need of a coat for your child, please stop in the office. We have many new ones and can check to see if we have your child's size. We also have new hats.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Smith

Classroom Spotlight ~ PE
This school year, the focus in my P.E. class has been to get all of my students physically active, learning and improving on skills, and the importance of making healthy decisions. Each kid comes to my P.E. class three times a week.
I usually dedicate one day of the week to focus on Health. So far this year, we have discussed the following Health topics: the importance of a healthy lifestyle, the importance of being physically active, the five food groups, having good hygiene, getting good sleep, how our brain and heart work, and what our bones and muscles do for our body. I look forward to teaching and discussing more topics with them as the school year goes on. That includes brushing/flossing our teeth and gums, the importance of mental health, and how being active can help us learn in the classroom. All of these topics are vital for them to learn and can have a positive impact on them in multiple ways. This is my second year that I have incorporated Health lessons into my P.E. class. I’m glad that I made this change because our kids need to know how to be healthy and the importance of doing so.
The other two days that they have gym class in a week, students participate in P.E. activities. Some of those activities involve learning/practicing skills, playing sports, performing fitness tests, doing different exercises, and practicing various locomotor movements. So far, the kids have participated in units such as: throwing and catching a ball, rolling a ball, football skills, hockey skills, basketball skills, and fitness testing. Not only have students gained knowledge about the skills/sports, but they have also increased their comfortability performing the skills/sports. My hope is that they grow to love one of the sports or activities that they played in my class; and then participate in them outside of school. It’s important that our kids are active outside of school, especially because they need 60 minutes of physical activity each day!
Thank you for taking the time to learn about my P.E./Health class. I hope that your child(ren) is enjoying my class and will continue to enjoy it. Please help me in keeping our students physically active and making healthy choices!
Thank you,
Mr. Umana
