Week 8
Dear MUMS Community,
As the rainy, windy, week draws to a close, here at MUMS, we are chugging along toward the end of the quarter! Students are beginning to think about the work they've completed, opportunities to show again what they know and what is coming next as it relates to Mixed Team classes. Teachers are preparing for PT-conferences next week and we are continuing to reflect on and refine our practices.
As shared with you in earlier months, we have a committee who is working diligently on redefining our Teaming Structure and Master Schedule to serve students in the best way we can. This committee is looking at Middle school philosophy, what other Middle schools are implementing and what we know makes good sense developmentally for middle level learners. We have begun to get feedback from our in school stakeholders and plan to reach out to get feedback from all of you in the coming weeks. We will likely reach out in a stand alone email to start, and hope that you will take the time to pass along your feedback about what is most important to you and your student when the opportunity presents itself.
Lastly, next week is a three day week for students. Wednesday night we will host in-person PT-conferences and Thursday morning we will host virtual PT-conferences. We look forward to seeing you and connecting about your student.
Thanks for the support and have a great weekend.
Best,
Michaela

Greetings MUMS Caregivers!
We all know that middle schoolers love to move. Here at MUMS, our dedicated PE teachers (Mr Ambrosio, Mr Martel, and Ms Thornton) keep your kiddos active and engaged for all 4 quarters of all 3 years of their time at MUMS.
This week in PE, 6th graders were practicing class routines to get started. Then 1 group joined Ms Thornton in the cafeteria for parachute games! Students played a variety of parachute games that required them to work together in synchrony as a group. In this Cooperation unit, students are working on demonstrating good communication and inclusion skills to be successful in cooperative games. Another group in the gymnasium was focused on reaction time and agility with a game that involved Rock-Paper-Scissors and sprinting to a line!
💡Talk to your student: How to they get their body moving everyday? How does their sense of community increase with social activities? How does being physically active benefit their focus, academic learning, and mental health?
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday October 21st from 4:00 - 7:30pm, and Thursday October 22nd from 8:00am - 12:00pm.
Conferences hosted on Wednesday October 21st, 2026 will be IN PERSON ONLY.
Conferences hosted on Thursday October 22nd, will be VIRTUAL ONLY.
Please sign up HERE via PTCFast to indicate which teachers and times you would like to meet.
Due to limited conference slots, caregivers can meet with only two CORE Teachers. For example you could meet with your students' Lang & Lit teacher as well as the I&S teacher, or you could set up conferences with Math and Science. Please only schedule conferences with 2 out of the 4 CORE Teachers. If you sign up for more than two Megan will contact you directly to choose the two conferences you prefer.
MIXT team, Wellness, Language Acquisition, Counselors, Special Education & Interventionists will meet independently with caregivers as folks sign up. You can sign up for as many of these conferences as you would like.
Conferences will be 13 minutes long as they have been in the past.
The focus of our conferences will be on how students are navigating their school day as well as discuss strengths and an area of growth/focus.
Conference sign ups will close at the end of the day on Sunday October 18th. If you have any questions regarding this process please contact Megan Curran at mcurran@acsdvt.org.
