Am I weak? By: Sadie Tye (Please Read)
Daniel Keem, also known as Keemstar, is a popular youtube sensation. His channel DramaAlert just reached 5 million subscribers. Scoring him 1.42 million followers on Twitter. The content of his channel is typically about drama in the online world. However, this isn't the first channel Daniel Keem has been a part of. Back in 2009, Keem started his first channel called Keemstar22. On this channel, Keemstar posted similar content as he does now. He talked about a lot of drama. However, On Keemstar22 he posted much more controversial topics. This caused many people to be offended by what he was saying. He was one of the first channels to publish these types of videos so people were taken aback by how he was using his platform. In 2015, the young "star" took it too far. He began posting racist videos and using inappropriate racial slurs. His viewers were not a fan of these types of videos and they wanted them to stop. So a petition on change.org was started. This was eventually what got Keemstar22 deleted causing him to start DramaAlert.
Although his first channel was deleted, he continued to post similar topics on all social media. On April 20th, 2019 Daniel Keem tweeted, "The drug companies invented all these illnesses so they could sell drugs to morons. Social Anxiety 100% is a fake invented illness. So they can sell you drugs & make millions. Stop being weak... Society is literally going to die if you keep this bullsh*t up." This was a very ignorant way to address a very serious problem. Many people were very angry and annoyed. His tweet blew up and lots of people reacted with something to say. Other content creators, such as Gabbie Hannah, LaurDIY, and Maggie Thompson, Tweeted back. Keemstars way of dealing with this backlash was to delete his original tweet, post more offensive and false "facts" about anxiety, and then reveal he is going to make a documentary about Social Anxiety. He is baiting teens to send in videos of themselves explaining their anxiety. However, many people are assuming his mini-doc is going to troll these people and make fun of the mental illness.
I can tell you from personal experience that anxiety is 100% real. The fact that I have anxiety does not make me weak. I know this because I have it. I've experienced what it's like to have a panic attack. I've had irrational fears and extreme stress. Keemstar has not. He hasn't had those experiences and has no right to tell people who have that they are "weak" and that they are "morons." It bothers me that ignorant people who have platforms, choose to use their voice to put down others. We as a society should be building each other up, not knocking us down. So rather than state false 'facts' and call you names, I want to use my voice and my platform to tell you, you aren't the only one.
If you hyperventilate at the thought of talking to a certain person, you are not weak. If you pace the room before a presentation, you are not weak. If you can't stand being alone, you are not weak. You are strong. It's hard to deal with anxiety because it doesn't have an agenda. It can show up at any time. You are brave and strong to be capable of handling this. If you are struggling with anxiety, talk to someone. There are so many different coping mechanisms you can try, but they are all better with someone else there helping you along the way. One big thing you can do is take care of you, exercise more, eat healthier, lower your caffeine and alcohol intake, and work on managing your stress.

Congratulations Keira! By: Emmalynne Payne
We want to commend Keira Broadie on winning the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship!
Keira is a pretty normal seventeen-year-old; she likes to hang out with her friends, watch Youtube and horror movies, and go to concerts. So how did she win a $14,000? Well, in order to answer that question, we went right to the source.
Keira found out about the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship when the enrollment counselor at her college brought it up. She had applied for a few scholarships before, but had never gotten a response. She found that the application process was relatively easy, although she didn’t understand some of it, and there were a lot of questions to answer. But I imagine that that was nothing compared to what she had to do next… She had to wait for a response for three months!
Keira is definitely going to put her scholarship money to use. She is planning on getting her bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Northwest Nazarene University and then transferring to a medical school to become a surgeon! When asked what advice she would give to someone who is interested in applying to scholarships, she said this, “I say go for it, you never know what you will receive, and in the long run, it helps you pay for college so it’s worth it”.
Congratulations Audah! By: Sadie Tye
ISVHS would like to congratulate Audah Jones on receiving the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship!
At just 17 years old Audah has accomplished many great feats, Including the Idaho Opportunity. The scholarship scores Audah $14,000 to any Idaho College. Audah first of the Scholarship when she received an email stating she was eligible. She then filled out the general information form (name, age, etc.) Jones was noticed for the scholarship by working hard and having good grades. In her essay, she shared a story of her acting like a "blonde". Jones believes this got her noticed because she wasn't pretending to be perfect. This is apart of why she won, not only this scholarship but 3 more! She applied for hundreds and won 4, but worked very hard and has the wins to prove it. Even though she won the Idaho Opportunities Scholarship, She will not be accepting it. This is because Audah is going to her dream school, The University of Montana Western!

Seven Great, Introvert Friendly Things to Try This Summer That Won’t Cost a Thing
By: Davina Trimble
Summer is a wonderful time of the year, but boredom can set in easily after you finish The Office for the millionth time and you’ve reread the Harry Potter series AGAIN. All of Buzzfeed’s content has reached to point of boring, your Amazon wishlist is a mile long, and League of Legends and Ark Survival Evolved don’t even interest you right now; but the last thing you want to do is go out and socialize and deal with people. What do you do? Try out one of these!
1. Love computers? Start learning how to code!
Computers are wonderful things, and knowing how to code is crucial in this day and age. Try out some HTML or maybe even a C language! A single summer, some Khan Academy, and a little bit of YouTube mixed with some effort can do wonders towards that job application.
2.Coding not your thing? There are hundreds of beautiful spoken languages ready to be learned!
Being able to speak a second language (or even a third or a fourth!) is a great thing to be able to do. It looks amazing on job applications, and there have been studies that show that speaking a second language can be beneficial towards your mental health.
Personally, my favorite apps for learning languages are Memrise and Drops, and there are hundreds of others out there that all have their pro’s and con’s. Memrise does cost a bit of money, but nowhere near as much as Rosetta Stone, and Drops is free, and you can actually learn easily without paying anything!
3. Is music your passion? Try your hand at producing some beats!
There are plenty of great DAWs (a DAW is a music production program) that are available for free (like GarageBand or DarkWave Studio), and YouTube has tons of tutorials on how to use them. Make some songs, open a SoundCloud, and who knows, it might become a hobby or even a career!
4. Check out your local library!
Libraries are wonderful places, filled with troves of knowledge and stories and that wonderful Book Smell™. Plus, many hold reading challenges, and who doesn’t love free stuff?!? If you don’t live near one, that’s okay, because many libraries have apps so you can read books on your phone or tablet!!
5. Have you listened to every song by your favorite artists? Maybe it’s time to check out someone new!
Music is a wonderful thing. It communicates hopes, dreams, and ideas; breaks language barriers; and it makes us feel better! Try looking for a new artist to stan, you never know what you may find. You could even incorporate your language learning into it as well! Learning Spanish? Try looking for some artists who sing in Spanish. Learning French? There are many talented artists from France and Canada! Learning Chinese? BOYSTORY or Jackson Wang (though, most of Jackson's music is in English) might fit your tastes. What about Korean or Japanese? Many K-pop groups, such as BTS and Twice, have albums in both languages; and J-pop is still a thriving industry.
6. Start a succulent garden!
While this one may not be free (oh shush, I know what the title says), it's still really affordable (it’s entirely achievable with less than $10), and succulents are extremely easy to care for and are wonderful to have! If you are afraid of accidentally killing them, try air plants. They are hardy, extremely low maintenance, and really pretty. They don’t even need dirt!
7. Go outside!
Before you start rolling your eyes and think, “OF COURSE we go outside, Davina”, I don’t just mean going to the store or a friend’s house, I mean going out in your back yard or a park and just letting loose. Meditate, go cloud watching, do whatever! Sometimes just getting away from it all is nice. Many of us live in Idaho, a state known for its natural beauty, so why not embrace it?!?
