Pueblo West High School Offers Work-Based Learning to Empower Career-Ready Students
As part of our commitment to career readiness, Pueblo West High School offers work-based learning (WBL) opportunities. The WBL program at PWHS offers students opportunities such as internships, apprenticeships, and job shadowing, allowing them to apply academic knowledge in practical settings. This initiative bridges classroom learning with real-world experience, preparing students for success in both college and the workforce. As part of this program, students can earn high school credit for 76-152 hours of work. These experiences are integral to the school's Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways, which include fields like healthcare, business, engineering, technology, broadcasting, automotive, law and justice, and construction. Students must have two credits in one pathway to be eligible for WBL credit.
One notable component is the School to Employment Program (STEP), developed in partnership with UCHealth at Parkview. STEP provides students with hands-on experience in healthcare settings, fostering both technical skills and professional development.
PWHS's approach aligns with Colorado's broader educational goals, emphasizing the importance of WBL in developing industry-relevant skills and facilitating smooth transitions from school to career. By integrating these experiences into the curriculum, PWHS ensures that students are not only academically prepared but also equipped with the practical skills needed in today's job market.
