The Kids Heart Challenge in partnership with The American Heart Association wraps up the first week of February at Smith! Your student has been learning different ways to keep their hearts happy AND healthy through the messages of our quacktastic heart heroes!!

If you haven't already, please sign your student up and join us HERE!

Please remember that there will be no school for students in Lubbock ISD February 17. This is a professional development and planning day for staff. Staff will also be participating in mandatory state assessment training. We hope you enjoy your 3 day weekend with your family!

Save the Dates for February 18-21! We are excited for a new morning opportunity for you to visit your student's classroom to see their learning in action as they showcase work. Check your parent email for more detailed information. The learning visits will be over by around 8:15 a.m. on the scheduled days to allow you time to carry on with your normal schedule. We look forward to seeing you for our 1st annual Spring Student Showcase!

Our 5th grade is fundraising for their end of year events and banquet. Come support their efforts with Smith Elementary Family Night at Parry's Pizza located at 11430 Quaker Ave on February 19th starting at 5:30 p.m. Remember to mention Smith Elementary when ordering in store or online!

Grandparents are very important to us and we want to show our appreciation with a special event. If you would like to participate, please choose a day to join your grandchild for lunch the week of February 24th-February 28th. Please remind all guests that they must bring their ID and check in the front office to obtain a visitors badge before going to the cafeteria or library. We are also excited to have our Scholastic Book Fair during that week. Grandparents are welcome to shop with their grandchildren before or after lunch.

Join us for our Spring Book Fair, February 24th-February 28th. The book Fair will be open before and after school, and during student's lunch times.

We want to remind all of our families the importance of safety at arrival and dismissal times.

Please remember:

• Our building doesn't open each morning until 7:20 (please don't dropoff prior to this time)
• slow down when driving and watch for children
• ensure your students are prepared to quickly exit your vehicle in designated drop-off areas
• help your students only cross at designated crosswalk areas
• only park in designated parking spot areas (not in any circle driveways)
• model kindness, patience, and grace for others

We know that sickness has been a problem within the Lubbock community, but we are hopeful that our Stars are back healthy and ready to be at school each day. We are in a new 9 weeks house attendance competition, and we need all healthy students at school each day so they can learn and help earn points for their team! Our blue team, Reveur, won the 2nd nine weeks and has a great celebration in January. We are excited to see what house will be our winner and participate in another fun celebration in late March!

The Preston Smith PTA has had incredible success so far this year. Thank you for continued involvement and support!
