Light Bulb Moments
Most educators understand the joy of the "light bulb moment." These are the instances when a student suddenly grasps a concept, and understanding shines through. Those moments of discovery are powerful. They represent connection, growth, and hope, and they are just as exhilarating for the teacher as they are for the student. They are shared experiences that can't be replicated, and they are the reason so many of us answer the call to education.
As your superintendent, I've experienced hundreds of light bulb moments. I may no longer stand in front of a classroom each day, but over the last four years, I have been blessed with countless moments of inspiration, connection, and pride. Some moments were tiny sparkles of light that lit my path during my time as your superintendent, and some were giant, incredible blazes that proudly illuminated our entire city! As I prepare to close out 35 years in public education, I find myself reflecting on those special moments again and again.
When I first arrived in Elgin, I was struck immediately by the spirit of this community. Time and time again, you show up in extraordinary ways for our students and schools. That spirit has carried our district forward through opportunities and challenges; the light of this community never dimmed. Your belief in one another and in the promise of public education has brightened the way forward and has made my time at Elgin ISD one of the greatest blessings of my career.
Together, we have blazed a trail and accomplished remarkable things with that shared spirit. In 2023, this community passed a $375 million bond package with an overwhelming 68% approval rate. Your expression of trust opened the door to shining horizons, creating state-of-the-art spaces and opportunities that will serve students and families for decades to come. Today, that vision is taking shape through projects like Legacy Oak Middle School, which will open in August 2027, as well as the innovative Homestead Culinary Arts Facility and Studio E broadcasting facility, both opening in fall 2026. During our time together, two new elementary campuses opened, with another soon to break ground, and Elgin High School has continued to grow alongside a district that welcomed approximately 1,200 new students during my tenure.
But these accomplishments are about far more than buildings made of brick and mortar. They are promises kept. They represent a community's commitment to shining a bright light on our Compelling Purpose: ensuring that every student in Elgin ISD has access to engaging, innovative learning experiences that provide choice and opportunity for the future.
We made history together, as well. For the first time, Elgin ISD teachers were recognized through the Texas Teacher Incentive Allotment program, generating more than $1 million in incentive pay. Elgin ISD was also named a Capturing Kids' Hearts National Showcase District. These honors reflect what I have known since my first days here: the people in our classrooms are extraordinary. Every day, they create thousands of light bulb moments, illuminating minds, inspiring hearts, and changing lives in ways that extend far beyond the walls of a classroom.
To our students: you are the reason every one of us walks through these doors. Blaze a trail all your own. You are capable of incredible things, and you have a community of people who will never stop believing in you.
To our staff: you are the heartbeat of this district. The light bulb moments you provide for our Wildcats matter more than you know.
To our families and community members: thank you for trusting us with what matters most to you.
Serving as your superintendent has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I leave knowing that the torch burns brightly in Elgin, carried by people who will continue to champion children and shape the future.

𝙈𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙨 𝙙𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙘𝙤 𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙙𝙤
La mayoría de los educadores entienden la alegría del “momento del foco encendido”. Son esos instantes en los que un estudiante finalmente comprende un concepto y la comprensión se refleja en su rostro. Esos momentos de descubrimiento son poderosos. Representan conexión, crecimiento y esperanza, y son tan emocionantes para el maestro como para el estudiante. Son experiencias compartidas que no pueden replicarse y son la razón por la que muchos de nosotros respondimos al llamado de la educación.
Como su superintendente, he vivido cientos de esos momentos de “foco encendido”. Tal vez ya no esté frente a un salón de clases todos los días, pero durante los últimos cuatro años he sido bendecida con innumerables momentos de inspiración, conexión y orgullo. Algunos fueron pequeños destellos de luz que iluminaron mi camino durante mi tiempo como su superintendente, y otros fueron grandes e increíbles llamaradas que iluminaron con orgullo a toda nuestra ciudad. Mientras me preparo para concluir 35 años en la educación pública, me encuentro recordando esos momentos especiales una y otra vez.
Cuando llegué a Elgin por primera vez, me impactó inmediatamente el espíritu de esta comunidad. Una y otra vez, ustedes se presentan de maneras extraordinarias para apoyar a nuestros estudiantes y escuelas. Ese espíritu ha impulsado a nuestro distrito a través de oportunidades y desafíos; la luz de esta comunidad nunca se ha apagado. La fe que tienen unos en otros y en la promesa de la educación pública ha iluminado el camino hacia adelante y ha hecho de mi tiempo en Elgin ISD una de las mayores bendiciones de mi carrera.
Juntos hemos abierto camino y logrado cosas extraordinarias gracias a ese espíritu compartido. En 2023, esta comunidad aprobó un paquete de bonos por 375 millones de dólares con un impresionante 68% de aprobación. Esa muestra de confianza abrió la puerta a nuevos y prometedores horizontes, creando espacios y oportunidades de vanguardia que servirán a los estudiantes y las familias durante las próximas décadas. Hoy, esa visión está tomando forma a través de proyectos como Legacy Oak Middle School, que abrirá sus puertas en agosto de 2027, así como el innovador Homestead Culinary Arts Facility y el centro de producción Studio E, ambos programados para abrir en el otoño de 2026. Durante nuestro tiempo juntos, se inauguraron dos nuevas escuelas primarias, otra está próxima a iniciar construcción y Elgin High School ha continuado creciendo junto con un distrito que recibió aproximadamente 1,200 nuevos estudiantes durante mi gestión.

A nuestros estudiantes: ustedes son la razón por la que todos nosotros cruzamos estas puertas cada día. Abran su propio camino. Son capaces de lograr cosas increíbles y cuentan con una comunidad de personas que nunca dejará de creer en ustedes.
A nuestro personal: ustedes son el corazón de este distrito. Los momentos de aprendizaje y descubrimiento que brindan a nuestros Wildcats son más importantes de lo que imaginan.
A nuestras familias y miembros de la comunidad: gracias por confiar en nosotros con lo que más valoran.
Servir como su superintendente ha sido uno de los mayores honores de mi vida. Me voy sabiendo que la antorcha sigue brillando en Elgin, sostenida por personas que continuarán defendiendo a nuestros niños y construyendo el futuro.
