CPHS Weekly Update

Parent Update: January 5th, 2026

CPHS WeeklyUpdateParent Update: January 5th, 2026

Greetings from Crown Point High School!

Here is some information for our parents and families as we begin a new week at CPHS.

Semester Two Start

Students will report to their 1st period classes on Tuesday, January 6th. Please be sure to locate 2nd semester schedules in the Power School portal on Monday evening. Some schedules may change from 1st semester to 2nd semester. Even if students are taking year-long courses, we balance class numbers at the semester, so there may be changes to which period a student takes a particular class.

Once the 2nd semester schedule is located, students should take a screenshot of it. Setting the screenshot to phone home screens is extremely helpful when navigating the halls of CPHS. If you find an issue with your schedule, report to the guidance office during the hour of the day where the issue is found. As always, if you have questions, please email your child’s school counselor.

Report Cards - Semester One Grades

Teachers will be entering semester grades in Buzz through Monday, January 5. Although the grades are now syncing nightly between Buzz and PowerSchool, parents should always view the most current grades in Buzz. Grades will not be finalized until January 9, and report cards will be available after 10 a.m. on January 16 in PowerSchool. Click here for a screencast showing how to view a report card.

FAFSA Night

CPHS will host a FAFSA Completion Night for seniors and parents on Thursday, January 22, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm in the Large Group Instruction Room (LGI), by the front entrance of CPHS. FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Our friends at INvestEd will help families with questions about their financial aid application (FAFSA). Bring your laptop for hands-on help. If your senior has not already filed the FAFSA, mark your calendar now for this event.

SAT

On Thursday, March 5th, all 11th grade students will be taking the SAT during the school day. All students in state of Indiana take the SAT at school in the spring of their junior year. While our juniors take the SAT, our 9th and 10th graders will take the spring PSAT. Our seniors will have an eLearning day.

The state of Indiana now requires that all high school transcripts display the SAT score taken during the school day of every student.

5 Ways the SAT Can Help Your Student

Why Test Prep Matters For All Students

Academic Assistance

If your student needs academic assistance this week, please reach out to their teacher, counselor, graduation coach, or administrator.

PowerSchool Sync

Grades are now syncing nightly from Buzz to PowerSchool and are visible to students and guardians on the Grades and Attendance page. If you have the PowerSchool app on your phone, you will begin receiving grade updates for your students. Updates will only appear if grades change. If you would like to turn off grade notifications in your PowerSchool app, you can click More, Account, and Notifications to find this option. To see the most detail about student grades and assignments, parents should continue to access Buzz. Instructions for accessing Buzz are linked here.

Parking Passes

Student drivers may pick up parking passes in the CPHS Attendance before or after school. In order to receive a parking pass, students must bring their driver’s license, car registration, proof of insurance, and parking permit application. There is no charge for the pass.

All students who drive to school should have the pass displayed while in the school lot.

Student Handbook

  • Student handbooks are available on our website.
  • Please note two important policies: cell phones and attendance. These policies are in alignment with state legislation.

Cell Phones

At CPHS, all cell phones and earbuds must be secured (out of sight) and silenced during all classes. Please talk to your students about the importance of attention and participation as we begin the school year.

Attendance

During the 2025-26 school year, please remind them of the importance of attendance. The Indiana Department of Education now requires that all school corporations include student attendance records on their official transcript. Good attendance is also vital to academic success and growth.

Transcripts - Required Components

IC 20-33-2-13 requires that school corporations include the following information in the official

transcript of a high school student:

1. Attendance records

2. The student’s latest statewide assessment program results

3. Any secondary or postsecondary certificates of achievement earned by the student

4. Dual credit courses from the Core Transfer Library taken by the student

Attendance Reminder

If your student will be off for an extended absence due to a medical procedure, family vacation, or other event, please contact our attendance secretaries as soon as you know the dates so that they can inform teachers. This helps teachers to assist students while they are out.

School Safety

School safety is always on our minds and is our top priority. Thank you for partnering with CPHS to keep our students safe. If you have information or concerns about student safety, please contact us via phone/email or make a report using the link below.

Safe schools anonymous tip line - If you see or hear something, say something.

Safety Reminders for Students

Students should report to a teacher, counselor, administrator, police officer, or any adult in the building if there is a safety concern. It is always better to overreport and be on the safe side.

During school hours (7:00 a.m. to 2:37 p.m.) hats and hoods are not allowed to be worn in our building. This is so that all students can be identified. This is also a part of the CPHS dress code.

Student drivers must remain cautious in the parking lot and near the school. Please remind students to drive slowly and follow the directions of our police officers. All student drivers must have a parking pass displayed in their vehicle while in the CPHS lot.

Student dismissal is at 2:37 pm. Students who do not have supervised after-school activities should leave the building by 3 pm. Students who are waiting for rides should wait in the lobby of the school near the front entrance.

Naviance

Naviance is a college and career exploration resource available to all CPHS students. Each student is assigned an account in which they have single sign-on access. A student can access their Naviance account by going to https://student.naviance.com/crownphs. Parents do not have an account, but are able to use their student's account to navigate all of the resources in Naviance.

Naviance is a tool for students interested in applying to colleges that fit the specific criteria they are looking for. It is also a resource for students who are unsure of their post-secondary path. It allows students to take personality assessments as well as strength/interest inventories to help align them with post-secondary options. Each military branch has an area in Naviance that allows students to research opportunities with our armed services.

Naviance is a good tool for parents and students to explore and generate conversations about post-secondary options. If you have questions about Naviance, you can contact your student's counselor for more information
