Dear Hardy Families,

As we head into week three, things are settling into a great rhythm here at Hardy! Students have co-created class codes with their teachers, and we're fully into instruction. This week and next, students will also complete their baseline assessments, the DIBELS screener for grades K–2 and the iReady diagnostic for grades 3–5, to help us understand where each student is starting academically. Please remind your student to take these assessments seriously and do their best, as the results form the baseline for their instruction this year.

Carline Reminder — Friday, August 28

This Friday, August 28, we're asking all Hardy families to pick up at the end of the school day, at 2:10, if possible. Immediately after dismissal, a major paving/slurry project will begin, and construction will completely take over our parking lot and all blacktop on campus.

There will be a very limited turnaround available in the south lot (where front office staff normally park) for families who absolutely must have their student attend Primetime. However, we highly recommend picking up all students at carline, as construction will make entering and exiting the lot very difficult for the rest of the day.

Thank you for your flexibility as we complete the final paving.

With Gratitude,
Principal Aragon

HARDY SCHOOL INFORMATION HARDY SCHOOL INFORMATION

Now Accepting Candidates: School Site Council (SSC)

The Hardy Elementary School Site Council (SSC) currently has three (3) parent/community member vacancies. Are you interested in representing families on the Hardy School Site Council for the 2026–2028 term?

School Site Council is composed of equal numbers of school staff and parent representatives who serve a two-year term. The council meets approximately 6–8 times a year to oversee the implementation of various programs at the school, including state- and federally-funded programs. SSC is a governing body responsible for deciding how to spend Title I money to improve the instructional program, working together to set goals for improving student achievement and allocating funds to accomplish those goals.

To nominate yourself, please submit your name via this form by 8:00 AM Tuesday, August 25. Our first meeting for newly elected members will be September 14, and all meetings will offer a virtual option. This is a two-year position, with membership terms running September 2026 through August 2028.

Warm Weather Expected this Week

We are expecting another week of hot weather and will continue to monitor conditions daily. Due to continued high temperatures, lunch and lunch recess will be held indoors this week. Please encourage your child to wear light clothing (not sweatshirts) and to stay hydrated throughout the day.

🦉 Leadership Roles at Hardy!

This Wednesday, our students will learn all about our Hardy leadership roles during our Leadership Assemblies! We'll review behavior expectations, talk about how to live out our SOAR values, and go over the leadership teams they have the opportunity to apply for at school.

Please talk with your child about the roles and help them get ready to complete their application. Take a look at the slides below with your student ahead of applications being emailed home this Wednesday.

BECOME AN EVERYONE A READER VOLUNTEER BECOME AN EVERYONE A READER VOLUNTEER

Make a difference in a child's life. Become an "Everyone A Reader" volunteer! - Training Next Monday!

Students who receive one-on-one reading support build confidence, strengthen their literacy skills, and develop a lifelong love of reading. Just one hour a week can have a lasting impact.

How It Works

  • Attend a free 1.5-hour volunteer orientation at Hardy.

  • Be paired with 3 students identified by their teacher for one-on-one reading support.

  • Volunteer just one hour each week during the school year.

Parents, grandparents, SDSU students, and community members are all welcome!

First Volunteer Training: Mon, Aug 31, 8:15am (after drop-off) in the Library.

PARKING & PRIMETIME REMINDERS

Under no circumstance may you park in the south lot, by the construction fence before, during, or after school, including during PrimeTime pickup. Our General Contractor needs that gate accessible at all times, and parking there blocks staff from moving their own vehicles. You will be ticketed or towed.

Please do not line up in the car line before 1:50 pm unless you are a TK or Kindergarten family. TK and Kindergarten families have priority pick up during this time. If you arrive early and are not TK or Kindergarten, you will be asked to loop around the block and return after 1:50. TK/K families with older siblings should come at the 2:10 dismissal time.

For PrimeTime drop-off (before 7:00 a.m.) or pick-up (after 2:45 p.m.), please park in the loading zone. PrimeTime pick-up cannot happen within 30 minutes of school dismissal; please wait until 2:45. Picking up at the same time as regular dismissal puts too much strain on our limited parking.

If your student is not attending PrimeTime on a given day, you must do both of the following:

  • Call the Hardy front office by 11:00 a.m. to let us know
  • Call PrimeTime directly to let them know

Hardy and PrimeTime are separate organizations. We do not communicate your child's absence to PrimeTime on your behalf. Please do not rely on informing your child's teacher of an absence (unless it's to request makeup work) as a way to excuse the absence or notify PrimeTime; teachers are teaching and cannot reliably pass along that information.

🦉 Join the PTA + Get Involved!

Now that the first week of school is behind us, here are four easy ways to get involved at Hardy.

PTA helps fund programs, classroom needs, and other resources that district funding doesn’t always cover. It’s also one of the ways families can help shape how we support Hardy students and staff throughout the year.

    JOIN PTA TODAY!

Come to our first PTA meeting Friday, September 4 at 8am | Hardy Auditorium

Meet the PTA board, share your ideas, ask questions, and, most importantly, help approve this year’s budget.

Tell us how you’d like to help

Complete our Volunteer Interest Form to let us know what kinds of opportunities interest you. Checking a box does not commit you to anything– we’ll simply keep you in the loop when something is a good fit.
