Happy Spring!?

The trees are budding (snow is falling), birds are singing (snow is crunching), spring sports are practicing (children are shivering) and Albert Pujols is a Cardinal once again. Spring has sprung in STL!

4th quarter begins next week, which is hard to believe. Only a few more months left of the school year, so only about 6-8 more chances to see your child depending on their day of the week. Time flies when you have the best job in all of Francis Howell School District ~ except when you have to say farewell to 5th graders. We don't talk about that or Bruno.

Thank you for sharing your children with me.

The Best Way for Talking to Children About War Since It's Not Easy

The Best Way for Talking to Children About War Since It's Not Easy

Children born since 2001 have never known a country that wasn't involved in a war. Fortunately, most children are far removed from the violence, but that doesn't mean parents shouldn't talk to children about the conflict. Children are likely to learn about war at some point from the media.

A Bit of Honesty

Maybe it's just me, but it is how I feel most days. General Mills has led me to believe that cold cereal is pretty healthy, hot cereal even healthier.

Meeting the Needs of Twice-Exceptional Children | Davidson Institute

Meeting the Needs of Twice-Exceptional Children | Davidson Institute

Many highly gifted children have other special needs - learning disabilities, ADHD, Asperger Syndrome, sensory integration disorder, etc. This can be very challenging, both in terms of identification (since gifted children can often use the giftedness to partially compensate for the special need, making it both giftedness and special needs harder to discover), and in terms of finding ways to address both the gifted and special needs sides of the child adequately.
