Wiggin Street Parent Update
October 9, 2026
Welcome
Families,
Thank you to everyone who joined us at Wiggin Street on Tuesday evening to learn more about the 1% earned income tax levy on the November 3rd ballot. The proposed levy addresses both facility and operating needs within Mount Vernon City Schools.
If you were unable to attend, I encourage you to visit the MVCSD website to learn more about the levy and review frequently asked questions.
There are also two additional Community Meetings scheduled at the Mount Vernon High School Theater for those who would like to learn more and ask questions:
Tuesday, October 20: 5:00–6:30 p.m.
Thursday, October 29: 6:00–7:30 p.m.
Your engagement, questions, and input are valuable as we work together to support our students and the future of our schools. We appreciate our families and community members for taking the time to stay informed and involved in these important conversations.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Christy Grandstaff

Lost and Found
Fall has arrived, and so have the sweatshirts in our Lost and Found! 🍂
With cool mornings and warm afternoons, students often take off their sweatshirts while playing outside and forget to bring them back inside. Our Lost and Found is starting to fill up!
Please remind your child to check for any missing items and bring them home. Labeling sweatshirts and jackets with your child's name is also a great way to help us return lost items.
Thank you for your help!

Parent BCI Background Check for Field Trips
We require that all adults attending field trips will need a BCI background check on file. The board will pay for any parent's background check done through the MVCSD district office to go on field trips or to volunteer at the school. The BCI background check will need to be done every 3 years and needs to be on file in our office. If any parent needs a background check, please go to the district office with your driver's license. Thank you.
School Attendance
Chromebook Insurance: Sign up by October 16th!
Chromebooks
As a district we are 1:1 on Chromebooks, and students in grades 1-5 receive a touchscreen Chromebook to be used in class. K students regularly use iPads and/or Chromebooks that are assigned to students and kept in the classroom.
The MVCSD Student Electronic Device Handbook can also be found on the district website, but I've linked it here for convenience. Please read carefully to understand that "a Student Electronic Device or any of its accessories that are lost (whereabouts unknown) or damaged is the responsibility of the student and parent involved in the loss of property.
There is an option to purchase insurance on devices kept at school, and more information can be found here: OPT IN Student Electronic Device Insurance Flyer (These will be sent home at the start of the school year.) The cost is $39 per device (K-12). Accidents happen, so I highly encourage the purchase of insurance to save you from paying for the cost of a replacement screen or Chromebook with a replacement cost of $368-$455.

Keep Your Family’s Health Insurance
Some Medicaid rules are changing. If your family gets health insurance through AmeriHealth Caritas, Anthem, Buckeye Health Plan, CareSource, Humana, Molina, or UnitedHealthcare, make sure Ohio Medicaid has your current phone number and address.
You may get information through mail, email, or phone calls about keeping your health insurance or finding out if you still qualify.
You can update your information in 3 ways:
- Online: Go to ssp.benefits.ohio.gov, sign in or create an account, and update your information.
- By Phone: Call (800) 324-8680 and talk with someone at the Ohio Medicaid Consumer Hotline.
- In Person: Visit your county's Job and Family Services Office.
Keeping your contact information up to date helps make sure you get important information about your family's health insurance.
