The Rhodes Ahead
November 14, 2025
From Mrs. Rhodes
Next week, we pray for and celebrate our second graders as they receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
When I was growing up, one story helped me understand this sacrament. It was about two siblings. One had done something wrong and tried to keep it a secret so she wouldn’t get in trouble. Her sibling, who had seen what happened, used that secret against her — reminding her of it whenever a chore or privilege came up. Eventually, she grew tired of being controlled by guilt and fear, and she finally told the truth.
Her mother responded with love: “I saw what happened when you did it. I was just waiting to see how long you were going to let her control you before you came to me.”
That story captures the heart of Reconciliation. When we go to confession, we aren’t telling God anything He doesn’t already know. We’re freeing ourselves from the guilt and shame that weigh us down. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is so beautiful because in it, we hear what our hearts most need to know — that we are loved and forgiven.
In a world filled with messages that tell us otherwise, how comforting it is to be reminded that God’s mercy is always waiting for us.
We are blessed to have the Sacrament offered almost 7 days a week at SHOJ. The schedule is: Monday 7-8 am, Tuesday 7-8 am, Wednesday 6-7 pm, Thursday (starting with Advent) 5-6 pm, Friday 7-8 am, and Saturday at 3:00 pm. As we start a new Liturgical Year with Advent, let's make a resolution to go more frequently.
Blessings,
Kathy

Tunes and Togetherness Thank You
Friends-
Thank you for an awesome evening at "Tunes and Togetherness." Through ticket sales to the event, our 24-hour auction, and raffle sales, we raised over $4,000 to invest in school service initiatives. Inspired by the example of Mother Teresa, we will use these funds to serve in our "own Calcutta."
Those in attendance at the event were able to see a video that showcased our passion for service, which was shared through the heart of one of our students, as well as Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Mary Burch and beloved counselor Mrs. Lori Schierts. Please click this link to have your heart appropriately warmed https://youtu.be/fa0Alhz5_0M.
Special thanks to Carson Ackerman for his video work, Mrs. Dreiling for being the "basket queen," the Pendergast, Rockers, and Waldeck families for their donations, Ms. Hart for her organization and decoration efforts, PVO dessert volunteers, our entire staff for supporting this effort in every way, and you, our SHOJ family, for coming together. It was so beautiful.
We're planning another T-N-T event next fall...we can't wait!
