Throughout the week, schools across the Lyon County School District came together in a powerful and heartfelt tribute to the brave men and women who have served—and continue to serve—our country. From moving assemblies to classroom learning activities, each school found meaningful ways to show appreciation for our veterans.

Many schools hosted Veterans Day Assemblies, where local veterans were invited to share their stories, offer words of wisdom, and connect with students. These assemblies gave students a chance to learn firsthand what service and sacrifice truly mean. Veterans from every branch of the military were honored, and their presence was met with standing ovations, handmade cards, and heartfelt applause.

Inside classrooms, teachers incorporated lessons that helped students understand the meaning of service, courage, and patriotism. Younger students created art projects and wrote thank-you letters, while older students engaged in discussions about the history of Veterans Day and the significance of military service throughout American history. Some schools even integrated veterans into their Career and Community Lessons, giving students a deeper appreciation for how the values of discipline, teamwork, and leadership carry beyond military life.

The Lyon County School District would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all veterans—those who have served in the past and those who continue to serve today. Your courage, dedication, and sacrifice make it possible for our students to learn, dream, and thrive in a free nation.

We also want to thank our schools, teachers, students, and staff for going above and beyond to make Veterans Day a special and meaningful experience for everyone involved. The creativity, compassion, and respect demonstrated in classrooms and communities throughout the week remind us all that the next generation truly understands the importance of honoring our heroes.
