Round Hill School News
September 2026
A Warm Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year!
What a fantastic first week back at Round Hill School!
Returning to Round Hill as your new principal truly feels like coming home. I’ve loved reconnecting with familiar faces and getting to meet all our new students and families over the last few days.
While so much of what makes this community special remains the same, you might spot a few differences here and there as we settle into the new school year—all part of making an already great school even better.
Living Our R.E.A.L. Values We want every single child to feel safe, happy, and excited to come through our doors each morning. To help make that happen, we are continuing to focus on R.E.A.L. behavior across all grades:
Respect
Effort
Attitude
Leadership
When our kids bring these four values to school every day, incredible learning and growth happen.
Important Back-to-School Forms & Communication As we kick off the new year, there are a lot of start-of-year details, permission forms, and information updates coming out. Please make a habit of checking your email and Rycor accounts regularly so you don't miss any important updates or permission requests for upcoming events and activities!
Going forward, our regular school newsletters will normally be sent out at the end of each month, but we’ll be sure to send along quick updates using School Messenger whenever urgent details pop up in between.
Main Office News: If you’re dropping by or calling the school, you’ll be seeing a tag-team effort in the main office this year:
Mrs. McManus is in the office Monday to Wednesday
Mr. Bergman takes over Thursday and Friday
Partners in Your Child's Day Above all, I believe in open communication. You know your kids best, and we are in this together. If you ever have a question, a concern, or just want to connect, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher, me, or the office.
Enjoy a well-deserved, restful long weekend with your family, and we’ll see everyone back on Tuesday ready for week two!
Mrs. Keely Nelson

Agent of the Board/Parent Volunteers & Drivers
Agent of the Board/Parent Volunteers AP 270
As in the past, parents who wish to volunteer for coaching and field trips will need to complete an Agent of the Board application at the beginning of every school year. A criminal record check within the last 5 years is required. Applications need to be approved by the Superintendent of schools. Please contact the office if you have questions or would like an application package.
Parent Drivers AP560
Our Athletics teams rely heavily on parent drivers. Only parents who are approved drivers are allowed to transport students other than their own to and from competitions. If you were an approved driver last year, you will not need to renew these documents until December 2026. If you would like to become an approved driver, you will need to get a package from the office and return it to the school.
Additionally, drivers will need to complete an agent of the board application. Thank you for your support.
The local Round Hill Elks have been providing students and staff at Round Hill School with free pizza once a month for lunch for quite some time. We want to take this time to thank them immensely for everything they have done for our school, students, staff and community!
Outcome Based Reporting: A New Way of Reporting Student Progress (K-6)
Starting this year, BRSD is moving from traditional grades to Outcomes-Based Reporting for all K-6 students. Here is some information you need to know:
No More Guesswork:
Instead of one general grade for a subject, you’ll see exactly which skills your child has mastered and where they still need work.
Personalized Growth:
Teachers can better identify when a student needs extra help in a specific area, ensuring no one gets left behind.
Better Communication:
You’ll get clearer, more meaningful feedback that shows your child’s actual progress through the curriculum.
Purposeful Learning:
Teachers will have data that will help them design lessons and assessments tailored to specific learning goals.
We’re moving toward a more transparent system that treats every student as an individual, making it easier for you to support their learning at home.
To help you better understand and navigate your child’s Outcomes progress in PowerSchool, BRSD has prepared some resources that will help you with this transition:
Accessing Elementary Student Marks via PowerSchool Parent Portal Web Browser - Parent Guide
Accessing Elementary Student Marks via PowerSchool Parent Portal Web Browser - Parent Video
Accessing Elementary Student Marks via PowerSchool Parent Portal APP - Parent Guide

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or your school’s administration team.

COMBINED CLASSES INFORMATION
The BRSD Education Department has developed new resources to answer questions regarding combined classes. At Round Hill School we have had combined classes for many years but with the reduction in funding across the Division this year, the number of combined classes may increase. Here is a link for Parent/Guardian FAQs about combined classes. If you want to read the information in paper format, we have a number of brochures at the office.
