Ms.Carey's WeeklyUpdateFriday, August 22, 2025

Hi Parents,

We had a fantastic and productive week! Our class is truly settling into the 3rd-grade routine, and I am so proud of the effort and enthusiasm they've shown. It's been wonderful to see a classroom environment forming where every student is kind, respectful, and an active learner.

Below in the "Academics" section, you will find information what we did this week and where we will be going next week!

This week, we started Reading Logs and continued writing in planners to help students manage their homework and stay organized. As a gentle reminder, please continue to check your child's planner each night to help them build this important habit. For students who haven't quite reached their 100 minutes of reading this week, there's still time over the weekend to catch up before they are due on Monday.

Our main goal for next week is to work on attentive listening. We will be focusing on how to give our full attention to the speaker, whether it's a teacher or a classmate sharing an idea, and practicing talking at the right times of the day.

We had a great week, and I'm so excited for what's to come!

I hope you all have a great and relaxing weekend!

Thanks so much,

Sierra Carey

Weekly Doings

Unfortunately, we didn't get to start our Weekly Doings this week.

So if all goes to plan, we will start our Weekly Doings notebooks this week!

What is Weekly Doings? Your child will be writing a note home each Friday about what they did that week in school. Your child can choose to write to mom, dad, a sibling, an Aunt, Uncle, grandma or grandpa. They will bring their notebook home on Friday, and whomever they write to should respond back in the notebook. The notebooks are due back by the following Thursday, so that they can write again on Friday. Please have fun with this!!

Other Things to Mention Other Things to Mention

1. Please make sure snacks are kept to one item and preferably a healthy item per day. There should be no juice boxes or drinks other than water at this time.

2. Please make sure toys and other little things are staying at home/in backpacks at school. These are creating more distractions in the classroom. Students were told if it is helping them learn, that is okay, but at this point, most are being used as toys.

Thank you so much for your collaboration!

Hi! My name is Sierra Carey and I am thrilled to be part of the Cherokee Trail community. This is my 1st year teaching, but I have wanted to be a teacher since before I can remember, so I am living out my dream! I just graduated from the University of Utah with my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and a Minor in Special Education.

My classroom centers on a positive, supportive learning environment where every student feels valued and accepted. I strive to make learning engaging and exciting for all, while encouraging confidence and motivation.

Outside of school, I like to spend time with my loved ones and friends, travel, and support all the Colorado sports teams!

I truly believe that parents and teachers are partners in a child’s educational journey. Your insights and support are invaluable in helping your child succeed, so please feel free to reach out to me at scarey2@dcsdk12.org with any questions or anything else you and your students might need!
