SENIOR INFORMATION! SENIOR INFORMATION!

zoom_out_map

The guidance counselors will meet with all seniors individually after May 1st to complete their Senior Final Exit Survey in Naviance. This applies to all seniors, regardless of whether they plan to attend a two or four-year college, enroll in a trade school, join the workforce, or enlist in the military. Please note that many colleges and universities require a deposit by May 1st. We look forward to meeting with all seniors and learning what their final plans are!

ATTENTION AP STUDENTS! ATTENTION AP STUDENTS!

AP exam season is right around the corner! All students enrolled in AP courses will take their corresponding AP exams this May, during the official testing window from Monday, May 5th to Friday, May 16th.

Taking an AP exam is a great opportunity for students to experience a college-level test while still in high school. Plus, many colleges offer credit or advanced standing for students who score a 3 or higher (on a scale of 1-5). If your student is a senior, we encourage them to send their scores directly to their chosen college through the College Board once they have made their final decision.

Please remember that enrolling in an AP course at Marshfield High School means committing to taking the AP exam instead of a final exam for that class. If a student does not take the AP exam, there will be a $40 fee (charged by the College Board), the AP designation will be removed from their transcript and replaced with a Level 1 status. For seniors, colleges will be notified of this change, and updated transcripts with a recalculated GPA will be sent, as outlined in the Program of Studies and MHS Student Handbook.

The AP Testing Schedule is linked below along with testing room locations. If a student requires late testing, they must receive approval from Mrs. Goff. Please note that late testing is only granted in specific circumstances, family vacations and college visits do not qualify. However, any student enrolled in AP Psychology attending the Junior Prom on Friday, May 16th is eligible for late testing on May 23rd at 12 PM. If they haven't already completed the Google Form in Ms. McGourty's class they should reach out to Mrs. Goff as soon as possible at kgoff@mpsd.org.

As the testing window approaches, AP students and their families will receive additional information via email. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We appreciate your support and wish all of our students the best of luck on their AP exams!

MHS Career EXPO!

We are pleased to invite all MHS students and faculty to the MHS Career Expo the morning of Wednesday, May 7, 2025 in the MHS Cafeteria. This is an incredible opportunity for students to explore a wide range of career paths beyond the traditional college route. Many students assume that college is the only option after high school, but without exploring alternatives, they might overlook fulfilling and lucrative careers in various trades and public service fields. This event will provide invaluable face-to-face conversations with professionals who can offer insight, advice, and firsthand experiences that could shape your future.

Junior College Planning Reminders! Junior College Planning Reminders!

Attention Juniors! Now is the perfect time to continue exploring colleges using Scoir and refining your list of schools of interest. We also encourage you to schedule college tours, with April vacation being a great opportunity to visit campuses!

In addition to researching schools, students will be encouraged to work on their college essay during the summer and will be assigned for summer work in junior English classes. Getting an early start will give you more time to brainstorm, draft, and refine your essay without the pressure of looming deadlines. A well-thought-out essay can make a strong impact on your application.

This helpful article from Bentley University outlines the Do’s and Don’ts of college essays. You can also view the Common Application prompts here to start considering which topic best showcases your experiences and strengths.

Any student that is interested in taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) can register to do so by clicking on the link below. The ASVAB will take place on Tuesday, April 15th at 7:45 AM.

Benefits of taking the ASVAB include:

Exploring Career Options – The ASVAB is not just for students considering the military; it also includes the ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP), which helps students identify their strengths and interests, guiding them toward suitable career paths.

Military Enlistment – Students interested in joining the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, or Space Force take the ASVAB to determine their eligibility and qualification for specific military jobs (MOS).

Assessing Skills & Aptitudes – The test measures abilities in areas such as math, science, reading comprehension, mechanical knowledge, and electronics, providing insight into academic and vocational strengths.

Scholarship & ROTC Opportunities – Some ROTC programs and military scholarships use ASVAB scores as part of their selection process.

No Commitment Required – Taking the ASVAB does not obligate a student to enlist in the military, making it a useful tool for career exploration even if they don’t plan to serve.

Community service refers to voluntary work intended to help people in a particular area or contribute to the betterment of the community. This can include a wide range of activities, such as assisting at local shelters, participating in environmental clean-up efforts, tutoring students, or helping at community events.
