Speech and Debate Results
The Arroyo Grande Speech and Debate team competed in the Tri-County Forensics League Open Debate tournament on October 19 at Burbank High School. Our team competed in the World Schools Debate category. Through four rounds, with both prepared and impromptu motions, our students discussed the use of military personnel to respond to civil unrest, whether political apathy is a justified response to modern democracy and finally how to best respond to a zombie apocalypse. Being recognized for Superior Performance was team Cerulean: Orion Schmidt, Mordred Morgan and Colin Martel. Part of the team for research and preparation were Paige Unch and James Steven Simon.

~Counselor's Corner~
Check those grades! We are at the mid semester mark and it is important to get those grades looking good. Now is the time to lock in and make sure your grades look exactly how you want them to look. Please remember that your counselor is a great resource for creating a plan to get you back on track if needed!
Reminder that the Counseling Center is open! We are pleased to announce that our AGHS Counseling Center is now open at break and lunch. We are located in room 515. One counselor is in the Counseling Center at break and lunch each day. This is a great place to hang out and play games or draw, to ask questions and get answers from a counselor, or to bring your friends and just eat lunch and chill.
Sophomore and Sophomore Families: We will begin scheduling our sophomores for their junior year this week! Counselors will be meeting with sophomores through their English classes to begin the process of selecting classes for junior year. Next week, we will provide all of the scheduling resources for you to use at home to have conversations with your student about what they will be taking for their junior year at AGHS! We will meet again with our rising juniors the week of December 1st, after the Thanksgiving break.
Seniors and Senior Families: Please remember that the counseling department wants to see all college apps before your student submits and we are here for drop in hours every Monday through Thursday from 2:00-4:00PM for college app help!

College & Military Visits
Seniors and Juniors planning a college/military visit should stop by the Attendance Office to pick up an Excused Absence Request form ahead of their visit. If approved, up to two days may be excused. ~Public Service Announcements~
SLO Behavioral Health, SLO County Opioid Safety Coalition, SLO County Friday Night Live in partnership with San Luis Obispo County Office of Education will be hosting a “Fentanyl High” film screening on November 5th from 6pm-8pm at the SLO Downtown Centre Cinemas. “Fentanyl High” is a documentary made by students FOR students. The film follows several high school students as they tell the heartbreaking truth their peers and families experienced with fentanyl poisoning. The film also explores how teens deal with emotional pain, navigate high school party culture, and are at risk of buying fake pills pretending to be Adderall, OxyContin, Percocet or Xanax on social media. This event provides an excellent opportunity for students and parents to learn more about the realities of fentanyl and opioid use, as well as open a dialogue for further discussion at home. For more information and to reserve your tickets, please visit www.slocounty.gov/fnl.
