Oops Notes

I wanted to take this opportunity to explain a little bit about our Oops Notes and how those are used here at the Learning Center. Oops Notes are used as a communication tool to notify parents of any mistakes and/or incidents that occur during the school day. Often times, situations cannot be easily summarized on a piece of paper, and therefore emails or phone calls are often used in conjunction with Oops Notes. At the same time, not all mistakes warrant a phone call or an email, and therefore, the Oops Notes serve as a heads up for you so that you can follow up at home with your child.

In addition, Oops Notes provide behavioral data for our school. Our PBIS team collects and analyzes the behavior-related data so that we may identify problems that may be occurring in different areas throughout the school, thus allowing us the opportunity to develop plans to address those areas of need. This data is also used as a way of measuring the success of our SOAR program.

The Oops Notes come in triplicate copy (white, yellow, pink). When and Oops Note is filled out, the white copy is sent to the office, the pink copy remains with the teacher to serve as a reminder, and the yellow copy is sent home. If you should ever receive an Oops Note for your child, it will be the yellow copy, which we ask that you sign and return. Should you have any questions related to the information on the note, please do not hesitate to contact myself or the teacher that filled out the note.

Breakfast

The Learning Center serves breakfast each day starting at 8:30. With the buses releasing students when the first bell rings at 8:55, we continue serving breakfast until 9:05, the same time that the final bell rings to begin the school day. Without knowing which students are supposed to go to breakfast, we trust that they know what to do. However, from time to time, we have students that go to breakfast despite having already eaten at home. If you could talk with your child to make sure they understand what your expectations are, breakfast or no breakfast, I would greatly appreciate it.

Parent-Student Handbook

Our Parent-Student Handbook is a document that outlines building information and expectations for both the Learning Center and Freeland Elementary. I would encourage you to review the handbook at your earliest convenience. It may be viewed by clicking on the link below, or by locating the "Documents" section on our school website or app and clicking on Parent-Student Handbook. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Parking During the School Day

Whether you are visiting for lunch, picking up your child for an appointment, or volunteering in the classroom, you are more than welcome to park in front of the Learning Center during the school day (9:05-3:35), thus allowing you to avoid bus drop-off and pick-up times. I would also ask that you avoid the designated fire lanes directly in front of the building. In addition, the Township is planning to do some significant road work on Third Street next Wednesday or Thursday. Please be sure to avoid parking in front of the building should you see any machinery/equipment either of those days.

Third Street

On Wednesday, October 3rd or Thursday, October 4th, the Township is planning on milling Third Street in front of the Learning Center. Paving is scheduled to occur on Saturday, October 6th. Our bus drop-off and pick-up routines will occur as usual, but I would ask that you avoid parking in front of the Learning Center if you see the township at work on Wednesday or Thursday.

Count Day

Wednesday, October 3rd is Count Day! The number of students in attendance on Count Day has significant financial implications for all school districts. We greatly appreciate your support in taking every measure possible to ensure your student is in attendance on Wednesday.

New Website and Mobile App

On September 1st, the Freeland Community School District unveiled a new website at the same address, www.freelandschools.net, and at the same time launched a new app for mobile phones. This app will allow you to stay up-to-date with access to real-time information from each of the Freeland schools. Please be sure to periodically check out the Learning Center's Live Feeds, News, and Events as we will be updating those items regularly. My goal is to move away from the Skyward messaging system for school-wide news and information as quickly as possible.

The app can be downloaded for free in the following ways:
