Thank you to everyone who attended our Open House event this week! We hope that it was helpful and informative and gave you a sense of what your child's year will look like. We are excited to focus our learning on water this year. It does feel a bit ironic that our year of water has started out with a severe drought, but there are some important lessons to learn there also. We will be having lots of conversation about the effects of droughts on nature and the important of water conservation. At Fort Creek on Friday, we were shocked to find a few mushrooms growing with how dry everything is. The mushroom pictured here is growing on our beloved Grandfather Stump. Grandfather Stump just gets more and more beautiful every year, and this year we are grateful for him providing a home for some of our fungi friends.

The Second Great Lesson builds on what students were presented in the First Great Lesson about how the universe came to be. The story of how life comes to Earth begins with Earth's first life forms, bacteria, and continues until just as humans appeared on Earth. We are doing things a bit differently this year and presenting the Great Lessons at the start of the year rather than throughout to allow the curriculum to unfold in a way that better follows the interests and engagement level of the children. Lots of fun learning ahead about the life in New Hampshire's waterways!

Fort Creek Friday! Fort Creek Friday!

Every Friday, the Saplings and Eaglets come together to have some exploration time at Fort Creek. Typically, there is a strong interest in interacting with the creek itself through activities like building bridges and racing boats made from natural materials. With the water level being so low currently, though, students are finding different ways to engage with the space. This week, there was fort building, imaginary wilderness survival, and some great rock shops! We find a good time wherever we go, but we are sure hoping some rain comes and fills up our creek soon!
