MESSAGE FROM MS LINDA
Tēnā koutou katoa. Nau mai ki te whānau o te Oratia. Talofa lava. Malo e lelei. Zdravo. Ni hao. Namaste. Kamusta. Greetings Oratia whānau and families.
Nau mai, hoki mai ki te kura. Welcome back to school for Term 2. I hope that you have enjoyed the non contact break and spent some good time with your children. I was fortunate enough to visit friends in Papamoa and spend some time at the Tauranga jazz festival. I went on a few lovely walks around the Mount and in the bush there, which was good for my soul - and my fitness. Our staff have returned ready to have a full and exciting term with your children.
Potiki students will be visiting Corban's Estate Art Centre, Arawhata are going to visit Matuku Link wetlands out at Te Henga/Bethells, and Tuakana have Camp Bentzon to look forward to. We have Jumping June lined up, with our students getting the skipping ropes out to raise money for the Heart Foundation. Pink Shirt Day in May will be celebrated by us all to raise awareness against bullying. We have a Staff Only Day on Friday May 30 (tacked onto King's Birthday weekend), and King's Birthday and Matariki public holidays as well.
Our students will be competing in the zonal cross country this term and netball trials are being held and teams being formed for all age groups. There are many other activities and clubs happening throughout each week, so remind your children to listen to the messages in the morning so they can get to the things that interest them.
Teachers will be starting to write mid-year reports for their students, and these will come home to you on the last day of term. This term is only 9 weeks long so it will fly past quickly once we get started. Please remember our open door policy, and keep in touch with your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns. We like to deal with things while they are small, and try to find solutions with you as we can.
Finally, our apologies for not being able to host our usual powhiri to start the term. The weather just did not want to cooperate with us, and since we are having to hold powhiri outdoors at the moment, while the hall is still under renovation, we have decided to wait till next term to welcome in our new families and whānau. Hopefully, our hall will be completed by then and we can meet together in there.
Take care and stay safe.
Kia kaha, kia atawhai.
Ngā mihi nui, Ms Linda
