What's Happening In Special Class this Month?
CAT TIME
Teacher: Emily Tilley
etilley@bpsbearcats.com
In CAT Time this month we will learn about voting, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving. We will hold an election where students will enter a voting booth to cast their ballot for their favorite of two books. We will spend time honoring our Veterans by creating poppies and american flags. To finish off November we will engineer sturdy tables that can balance and withstand an entire Thanksgiving feast! Happy Thanksgiving!
LIBRARY
Teacher: Dana Gamble
We will continue to discuss topics such as characters, settings, author and illustrator. This month we will begin learning more about Non Fiction books and story elements. The Library had a great Scholastic Book Fair. We met our goal and then some! Thank you for purchasing and supporting your child, teacher and our school in providing books for our students. We will have another Book Fair in February.
PE
Teacher: Shane Duncan
We are going to play one of my favorite games to start the month involving a leaf blower. The kids always love this activity. Coach Parker has jumped right in as my intern and is doing great. The kids have loved her being in there and we will start doing some Thanksgiving themed games. Coach Parker has started leading the stretches. At some point this month she will take over and create the games and teach the entire class. We are excited about November being here.
MUSIC
Teacher: Kari Metheny
We will be learning AB form songs, 4-beat Sol-mi pattern songs about the season. We will be playing with sound stories in the classroom and continue learning our Christmas Program songs.
ART
Teacher: Megan Jones
In Art class for the month of November we will be working on creating a finished artwork made with watercolor paint. We will practice using our watercolors and learn how to take care of our paint and brushes first. We will finish off the month by creating a two-part fall inspired artwork.
Counselor's Corner
During my November lessons, I’ll be reading The Smart Cookie by Jory John and Pete Oswald with students. This book is all about discovering that being smart can mean many different things. We’ll talk about how everyone has their own strengths and talents, and that being kind, creative, and trying your best are just as important as getting good grades. My goal is to help students see that learning can be fun and that there are lots of ways to shine both in and out of the classroom.
Pre-K News for November.....
Happy November, Pre-K families! This month, our themes are Eating Well, Active Me, and Living and Non-Living Things. We’ll learn about healthy food choices, staying active, and discovering what makes something living or non-living through fun, hands-on activities. In literacy, we’ll focus on rhyming, learning letter names and sounds for Aa–Hh, Qq, Uu, Zz, Ii, Vv, Dd, Ff, and Nn, and writing our names. In math, we’ll explore sorting, two-part patterns, and recognizing and describing the attributes of 2D shapes.
As the weather gets cooler, please be sure your child brings a jacket each day for outdoor play, and encourage them to practice putting on and zipping it independently at home. Thank you for your continued support — we’re looking forward to a wonderful month of learning and fun!

November News in Kindergarten....
Kindergarten will continue to work on letters, sounds and sight words this month in Literacy. We will start blending and reading CVC (Consonant Vowel Consonant) words, as well as writing simple phrases and sentences. Please make sure you are reviewing sight words and practicing blending skills at home.
In math, we will focus on addition addition and subtraction within 5.
During month of November kindergarten will also study Pilgrims, Indians and Thanksgiving traditions.
A Message from Our Principals...
- be ready to go during drop off times so we can keep the line moving
- car tags should be visible in the afternoons all the way through the line
- change out your child's extra clothes to prepare for the cooler weather
- send a jacket for cool days
We will continue to send home books each month for students. We hope you are enjoying them with your child!
