Please review this flyer as it includes essential information regarding our school's commitment to a fun and wholesome Halloween. While we are excited by the energy which accompanies this day, we must also continue to support the educational mission of our school.

Students and staff are welcome to wear appropriate costumes on Thursday, October 31st. Of course, our emphasis is on keeping it a fun and wholesome day for our children.

Importantly, parents are reminded that the school's dress code remains fully in effect for the day. Parents must ensure that children's costumes are not physically revealing or suggestive, do not depict violence, do not caricature any gender, sexual orientation, racial, religious, or ethnic group, nor portray any message that is counter to our school's educational mission. Also, if the costume could potentially be scary or hurtful to anyone, it is not appropriate for our school and will not be allowed. This means that masks, weapons, and full face paint are not allowed. Lastly, if your costume requires colored hair spray, this design must be done at home.

It is important to remember that some of our students are frightened by scary clowns, demons, and devils--please avoid these types of costumes. If we feel a costume could frighten a student, the costume will not be allowed in school.

The basic costume rule is simple: If you are not sure that a costume is appropriate, it is likely not appropriate and will not be allowed. Let's keep it fun!

We thank you for helping to keep Halloween a fun and wholesome event at Island Trees Memorial Middle School.

Sincerely,

Mr. Keegan

As we typically have a great turnout for the Halloween Social, we will have many families picking up children at 4:15. Please be sure to follow the protocol for pick up included below.

• No students will be permitted to walk home from Halloween Social.

• Cars may park in our front circle, side parking lots, along Wantagh Avenue, or in our school's back parking lot.
• 5th grade students will be dismissed from the front of our school on Wantagh Avenue.
• 6th grade students will be dismissed from the back of our school.
• If picking up children in both grades 5 & 6, please pick up in the back of our school.
• We do ask that parents come out of the car so that we may visibly see you and present your children.
• We will dismiss our students promptly at 4:15.
• As we are promoting a fun event, and we want to promote student safety, we ask that you support an orderly and deliberate dismissal from the social.
