CONCORD TEAMS SHATTER EXPECTATIONS
Concord brought home four different Big 8 Conference championships! That is right I said FOUR!!! Our 7th-grade volleyball team claimed the Big 8 title last Saturday. Our JV girls wrapped up their Big 8 title on Tuesday night, and the Boys Varsity and Girls Middle School cross country teams each claimed conference title glory Tuesday night as well. There are so many highlights I cannot even mention all of them in this article. The graphic below shows just how dominant Concord has been in the Big 8, but what fills me up to the brim is the fact the athletes on these teams are also earning academic recognition as well. These students are shattering expectations in the classroom; in fact, a majority of the students, along with others across our teams, will be recognized by the Big 8 not only for their athletic performance but their outstanding GPA. It is incredible these young students are able to use their mental toughness to excel in multiple areas!! #PROUDTOBEAJACKET #ONEHIVE

DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SEL STANDARDS CURRENTLY UNDER BOARD REVIEW?
Concord Community Schools has worked for the last two years to write their own K-12 Social Emotional Learning (SEL) standards. The work was started after our school board made the commitment to focus on the positive well-being of our students. Written through research to meet the needs of our students and reflect the values of our community the standards include five competency areas: self-awareness, self-management, relationship skills, responsible decision making, and social awareness. Each area represents a skill set that is critical to the success of our students here at school and out in the community.
The SEL standards are currently under review by our school board. Review means that the entire board has the opportunity to read the standards, provide feedback, and offer suggestions on the work before adoption. A smaller committee spent several hours discussing and reviewing the standards last week. The standards are now posted on our website. Parents have the opportunity to read them and then have any questions answered at a parent meeting on November 8th at 6 pm in the high school media center. If you have questions, please join us. If you are unable to make the meeting, feel free to call the administrative building and make an appointment for further discussion.
