🐾 Say Something - Sandy Hook Promise - Student Training🐾
Last week, students in the Jennings County School district completed training over the Say Something Anonymous Reporting program which is coordinated by the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation. The Say Something-Anonymous Reporting System (ARS) program empowers students to be Upstanders and say something to a Trusted Adult when they recognize warning signs and threats as well as offers ways students can grow a community of Upstanders. The program is designed around three goals that are accomplished using the program’s framework and reinforced through the program cycle.
Goals:
The three goals of the Say Something-ARS program are to teach students how to:
- Recognize warning signs and threats of someone who may be at-risk of hurting themselves or others.
- Say something to a Trusted Adult to get help and how to submit a tip to the Anonymous Reporting System.
- Grow a community of Upstanders who look out for one another.
Program Framework:
The goals are accomplished using our three-step program framework:
- Recognize Warning Signs and Threats: Learn what warning signs and threats are and where they are likely to be found.
- Act Immediately; Take it Seriously: Learn why it’s important to take action immediately when warning signs and threats are observed.
- Say Something: Learn when to tell a trusted adult when warning signs and threats are observed as well as how to submit a tip using the Say Something- Anonymous Reporting System.
How to Submit a Tip:
There are many ways that a tip could be submitted:
- Use the Say Something Mobile App
- Text TIP to 79775
- Call 1-844-572-9669
- SaySomething.Net
- Use JCSC's specific reporting link: https://www.p3campus.com/tipform.aspx?ID=3461
🐾 Respect: It’s More Than a Word, It’s a Way of Life at JCMS 🐾
Respect isn’t just something we talk about, it’s something we show every day through our words, actions, and choices. At Jennings County Middle School, being respectful is one of the cornerstones of the Panther Way. It’s how we create a school where everyone feels valued, safe, and ready to learn.
Respecting Others
When we treat others with kindness, listen when they’re speaking, and avoid gossip or negative talk, we show respect. It’s not always about agreeing with everyone; it’s about recognizing that every person deserves to be treated the way we’d want to be treated. Whether it’s a classmate giving a presentation, a teacher explaining directions, or a staff member keeping the building running smoothly, small acts of respect go a long way.
Respecting the School Building
Our building is more than just walls and floors, it’s where we spend a huge part of our lives together. Respecting our space means picking up after ourselves, keeping hallways clean, taking care of classroom supplies, and treating furniture and materials as if they were our own. When we take pride in our school, it shows. A clean, well-kept building reflects who we are as Panthers, a team that takes care of what we have.
Respecting Yourself
Respect starts with you. When you come to school prepared, give your best effort, and make good choices, you’re showing respect for yourself. Believing that you matter, that your effort and attitude count, helps set the tone for success both in and out of the classroom.
The Panther Way
Being respectful doesn’t mean being perfect; it means learning from mistakes, apologizing when needed, and choosing to do right, say right, and act right every single day. At JCMS, respect is how we unlock our potential together.
As we move forward with the day, what’s one way you can show respect today to a classmate, your teacher, or our school building?
🐾 Picture Retakes 🐾
Barksdale will be back at JCMS on November 18th for picture retakes and to take pictures of our students who were absent during our first scheduled picture day.
What to expect on picture day
- Any student wishing to have a retake should bring their original picture package to exchange for the retake image.
- When an order is placed online, the parent/guardian will receive a camera pass via email. This can either be printed or texted to the student and brought to picture day. The photographer will photograph the printed camera pass along with the student.
- If a student is not able to print their camera pass, that is not a problem. We will match up the student to their order manually in the production process.
- A parent may order from the flyer up until 24 hours after picture day. After 24 hours, the online ordering access may close. This will allow our imaging team to "Pull" all orders submitted and match them with the students photographed. You may order by clicking the flyer below or by following the linked website below.
- When pictures are returned to school, all students that purchased pictures will receive their prepaid package. Any student that was photographed but did not order a package, will receive a "Proof" (PX) of their picture that was taken on picture day.
All proof packages offer parents a second opportunity to order prints. All orders are subject to shipping and handling costs of up to $8.50 and will be shipped directly to home.

🐾 ILEARN Checkpoint - Second Attempts 🐾
JCMS students began their second attempt at the ILEARN Checkpoints last week. This is the perfect opportunity to demonstrate just how much growth has happened since the start of the year!
These short checkpoint assessments help us track progress toward the big spring ILEARN test. Think of them as a “progress check”, a way for students and teachers to see which skills are strengthening and which ones still need a little extra focus.
Students should take pride in how far they’ve come. The effort, attention to detail, and strategies they’ve been using in class all year will shine through in this round of testing. Remember, growth matters more than perfection — every point gained represents hard work paying off.
As we begin this next round, students are encouraged to:
-
Be prepared. Get a good night’s rest and charge those Chromebooks!
-
Be focused. Take your time and use those test-taking strategies your teachers have shared.
-
Be confident. You’ve been building these skills day by day — trust your progress.
Let’s keep unlocking our potential, Panthers, and show what true progress looks like! 💪
