School Newsletter - March 2026
Let there be light!
Something feels different! Something has changed! Over the course of February there is shift. It isn't sudden, or swift, or even perceived from one day to the next, but as you move through the month from February 1st to February 28th you realize it isn't spring in the air, it is light in the sky!
On February 1st we have about 10 hours and 16 minutes of daylight. By the close of the month on the 28th, we have an astounding 11 hours and 18 minutes of sunshine to brighten our days! That is over an hour of extra of light! Come March, steps get a little higher, smiles come more frequent and the weight of challenges seem easier to lift! This isn't spring in the air (because we live in Colorado and we ALL know snow is actually around the corner for us), it's LIGHT!
As we welcome March with open arms, I challenge us all to bring more light where needed! Consider how things could shift if we sprinkled in just a little more light! It doesn't have to be a lot, and maybe it isn't noticeable from day to day, but it will accumulate! As you lighten someone's load, lighten your worries, lighten the mood, lighten a room, it will be felt and it will make a difference over time! Our children are masterful at bringing the light! Let's learn from them!

Literacy Night - Thursday March 12
Plan on joining us at Summit on Thursday March 12 from 5:00 - 6:30! We will have pizza ready for dinner and stations set up for learning! We will explore literacy and how our children learn the many important skills of reading!
This will be a fun and wonderful night of togetherness and LITERACY! What could be better?!
Scholastic Book Fair
The book fair will run from Monday March 16 through Friday March 20! We want to invite our families to come and shop every afternoon from 2:00 - 4:00! We will have extended hours on Wednesday March 18 until 5:00 following our Read-a-Thon Kick Off at 2:00!
If you cannot come to the school to shop, we will allow students to make purchases during their Library class time ONLY if they have funds loaded on the eWallet App through Scholastic. Details will come home on how to set that up! Students should NOT bring cash to school for the book fair! Our preference is to have children shop with their grownup! This allows parents to help their children make the best book selections for them!
We will need volunteers to help make the book fair happen! If you are interested in volunteering, please click the button below and sign up! Thank you for your help!

Be in the KNOW
Healthy and Thriving
The health staff is hoping you are navigating this winter season without any issues! However, we know that many children and families are dealing with upper respiratory issues, including various strands of upper respiratory infections and severe colds! While we want students to be at school, it is our top priority to keep everyone healthy and well!
We ask that if your student has any of the following symptoms they remain at home: fever, diarrhea and/or vomiting and a new or severe cough. We ask that you please wait 24 hours for those symptoms to subside (without the use of medication) before returning your student to school (and improvement in the case of a cough). If you have any questions about any other symptoms or health concerns, please feel free to call your school nurse directly. When you call the office to report an absence, it is helpful if we can know what type of illness or symptoms your student is experiencing. We appreciate your willingness to share that information so we can track trends and help protect our vulnerable students. If a student becomes ill at school, we will call parents for an immediate pick up. Thank you for your assistance and partnership keeping our students, staff, parents and visitors healthy.

We do our best work when we are together! The more we are here at school, the more progress we can make! In January we have 112 students that didn't miss a day! For the month of February I am pleased to report that the number has risen to 123 students that have been present every day!
Let's continue to make attendance a priority! Great job Summit Eagles!

Capturing Kids' Hearts - PERSEVERANCE
Each month we focus on character traits in our morning meetings, our weekly lessons with our counselor and woven throughout our school day! As we march into March, our focus will be PERSEVERANCE!
"Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did." - Newt Gingrich
Our children have abilities beyond our wildest dreams! Let's help them see what they are capable of by cheering them on through failures, challenges, and difficulties! The more we show them they CAN do it, the more often they WILL do it!
Musical March Madness
Starting March 2nd during specials, songs will go head to head as students vote on their favorite song and move them through brackets until we get Summit's top song of the season! This year, staff members had to submit a song they love that is from the decade they were born! We have some fabulous songs from the 50's through the 2000's! It is so much fun to listen to new music as we dance and sing our way through March!
I encourage you to ask your child about the songs they are hearing and which one they voted for! Play new music together and have fun!
