She did it again!

Olivia Wright was awarded 4th place in our region for her Patriots Pen essay. She competed against students in grades 6-8. The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) sponsors the Patriots Pen youth scholarship competition. The program is dedicated to encourage a better understanding and appreciation for America, the VFW’s Voice of Democracy competition helps foster patriotism among today’s youth. The awards dinner was Thursday night. Mrs. Marla Ott was her sponsoring teacher. Way to go Olivia!

Two Teams, One Family

We have two Herobotics teams this year, we have an all boys team and an all girls team. These students competed separately but are 100% supportive of each other!

The Girls' Project

Herobotics Gold researched how organs are transported during the organ donation process. They designed a sensor monitoring system for kidneys so that doctors can be kept apprised of conditions inside of the organ box as it travels. With their system, "SPOT," doctors can ensure the kidney is delivered safe and secure.

The Boys' Project

Herobotics Red researched how cargo theft in trucking causes the transportation industry to lose billions of dollars annually. They developed a product, the "Trailer Trapper," that offers a low cost way to ensure semi trailers can't be stolen from truck stops. Throughout their process, they worked with actual industrial engineers from JB Hunt to refine their project.

The Robot Competition

The robot game is the energy that drives FIRST LEGO League. Each team works for months to develop and program a robot to complete various missions to score points. The robots have to operate completely autonomously and score as much as possible in only two and a half minutes. Herobotics took first and third place in the robot game, with only 30 points separating our teams!

All the Awards

Hellstern boys won Overall Champions Award. The girls won Core Values Award with a PERFECT score! Hellstern took first (boys) and third (girls) place in the robot competition. You guys rock!!

Ugly Sweaters

If your child does not have an ugly sweater - don't "sweat" it!! Students will have an opportunity to decorate their top on Friday.
