MONTH OF THE MILITARY CHILD
APRIL IS DESIGNATED THE MONTH OF THE MILITARY CHILD
Because of our close relationship with Scott AFB, many families of HCS are members of our nation's military. The Month of the Military Child is an annual event to acknowledge the unique challenges and strengths of military children, who often experience frequent moves, deployments, and other difficulties due to their parents' service.
May 1st is designated as "Purple Up!" day, where people are encouraged to wear purple to show support for military children.
You can anticipate announcements and activities during the week of April 27 to help show support for our military community.

D.A.R.E. GRADUATION THIS PAST WEEK!
The sixth-grade class recently completed DARE class and had a graduation ceremony on Wednesday in the Parish Center.
DARE is an 8-week long class taught in schools across the country to help students learn about the dangers of drug and alcohol use and how to make good decisions in life. Our DARE class is provided by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department and is taught by Sgt. John Kennedy (middle of picture). Also in attendance was his supervisor and our former DARE Officer, Major Darren Fults.
At the end of DARE, our students write an essay about what they learned. Celia Shelton and Tommy King were chosen to read their essays to the students and parents in attendance.

WHEN WALLBALL GETS INTENSE AT RECESS...
You need to dress accordingly.
Proper padding and equipment is a must.
BUT...
It's sometimes good to have a doctor (or vet) on sight!
QUICK REMINDERS!!
1. Unless you are coming to drop off in the morning or pick up at dismissal, we kindly ask that you utilize the side roads for parking. We don't want to put our kiddos in harm's way during PE or recess (or anytime!)
Thank you for your cooperation.
2. Also, remember that past newsletters can be found on our school website. (There's a tab up top!)
