Big Day of Service Upcoming
🌱 Join Us for the Grand Oaks Big Day of Service!
It’s time to roll up our sleeves and show our school some love! On May 16, 2026, we are coming together for a day of hard work, community spirit, and campus transformation. Whether you have a green thumb or a steady hand with a paintbrush, there’s a place for you to help make Grand Oaks shine.
Our Mission: Refresh & Renew
We have a big checklist and need all hands on deck to tackle these projects:
The Garden Revival: We’ll be clearing out the weeds, spreading fresh soil and bark, and putting new plants in the ground to create a vibrant outdoor space.
Playground Makeover: Help us brighten up the blacktop! We’ll be repainting classroom spots and lining up the playground markers to make recess better than ever.
Campus Beautification: From picking up litter to general "sprucing," our goal is to leave every corner of Grand Oaks looking its absolute best.
Why Volunteer?
"Community is at the heart of Grand Oaks. When we take pride in our physical space, we create a more inspiring environment for our students to learn, play, and grow."
Ready to help? Grab your family, friends, and neighbors. Let’s make this the biggest Day of Service yet!
Announcements
School Site Council Ballot for vacant position - Open until April 13th
We have one nomination for our School Site Council parent position:
Thank you, Erika Vargas for your engagement in our school community!
Parents, Please click here to cast your vote for our nominee.
Early Dismissals Policy - Please Read
Thank you for your adjustments to early dismissals! This helps our teachers keep the class focused and end of day smooth. The information is here for one more month, for easy reference:
To minimize classroom disruptions, we will no longer be honoring walk-in early dismissals during the lat 15 minutes of the school day, 3:15-3:30 MTWF and 2:00-2:15 on Thursdays.
If you know ahead of time that you must to pick up your student during the final 15 minutes of instruction (because you have an inflexible appointment), you may call in advance so that we will have the student ready and waiting in the front office when you arrive.
Thank you for your cooperation with this adjustment. It will help ensure a smooth end of day for all of our students and staff.
Morning drop off reminder
- Please follow the sidewalks and official crosswalks to ensure safety and traffic flow, entering Grand Oaks through our main gate by the office only.

Literacy Tips for families
Earth Day April 22nd!
Family-Friendly Earth Day Activities
Earth Day is more than just a date on the calendar. It is a great chance for the entire family to learn to care for the planet and protect the world they live in. Teaching children how to care for the environment can be fun, hands-on and a great way to bond as a family.
Here is a list of simple and meaningful activities you can do together to celebrate Earth Day on April 22 and all year long.
Plant Together
Pick what you want to plant together. It can be a tree, a backyard garden or a beautiful potted flower. Kids love getting their hands dirty! Planting is a fun way for them to learn about how things grow, practice responsibility and discover what plants do to keep our planet healthy.
Plan a Mini Cleanup Adventure
Grab some gloves and a trash bag and pick up trash on your street or at a local park or trail. This is a great time to chat with your kids about how trash can affect animals and the places where they live. Talk about how even small actions can help protect nature.
Make a Trash-to-Treasure Craft
Turn everyday items you’d normally throw away into a fun craft project your kids will love. Research how you can make a bird feeder out of a milk carton, binoculars out of toilet paper rolls, soup can planters or bottle cap flowers. The possibilities are endless when you look at trash as newfound treasures.
Start Recycling in at Home
Create a small area in your kitchen, garage or laundry room with labeled bins for paper, plastic and cans so kids can easily help sort items. Have the little ones help by decorating and labeling the bins.
Complete Small Earth-Friendly Challenges
The small choices you make can add up when put together. Challenge your family to use less water by turning off the faucet while brushing teeth and taking shorter showers. Turn off lights in the house when you leave a room and turn off the television when you are not watching it. Use your bikes for short trips or put on your walking shoes and take a short hike to the store or friend’s house.
Celebrate the Earth every day, not just Earth Day! By choosing one small habit to start as a family can help kids learn that even little actions can make a big difference.

March Highlights
Community Readers Day
Many members of our community joined us for Community Readers Day on March 27th! Our Guest Readers included Citrus Heights City Manager Ash Feeney, CHPD officers and detectives, school board candidate Roxanne Stellmacher, our public library staff, SJUSD district staff, and more! All students had an opportunity to enjoy a few guest readers.
Garden Prep
Our 5th grade students are prepping the garden ahead of our Big Day of Service (coming May 16!). They have been clearing weeds and learning about the conditions that plants need to thrive.
Egg draft
Several of our classrooms are incubating eggs! We can't wait to see the life cycle unfold when our chicks emerge!
Glow art
Fourth grade students made glow art last week!
Wellness team in action
Our wellness team works with individual students, small groups of students, and also whole classes to ensure that our students have the skills they need to navigate their social world with kindness and confidence. During March, they presented to 3rd grade classes on how to cultivate positive friendships and more.
