Mrs. Sommer's Classroom Chronicle
Week Ending 10/01/2026
Friday Letter Books
Families,
Please be sure that Friday Letter books are back at school by Friday morning, each week. Students will always write to someone new on Friday afternoons as part of our writing block. Because this week is a short week, we will not write a letter. We will resume next week. Thank you all for your continued support. The students have loved reading and writing letters to special family members and friends!

Sneak Peek At Our Week!
Mathematicians started Unit 2 this week in Bridges! We explored with beans and cubes this week! They estimated, counted, and compared groups of ones, tens, and hundreds. We even counted all the way up to 1,000+! Students were engaged in group, partner and individual work. Their Unit 1 math test was graded and shared in their conference folders.
Readers studied words that have patterns such as wh, th, ch, tch, sh, and ph. They also read a collections of poems and learned about the importance of rhyming words and stanzas. Readers focused on how each poem made them feel, as we talked about how different stories may affect our emotions.
Writers had lots of time to practice our spelling words this week. We also edited and checked our work for correct punctuation. We used periods, question marks, and exclamation marks. Writing will be collected, graded, and sent home in the coming weeks!
Second graders did a great job during our weather drill this week. They practiced sheltering in place in our special, safe location. Even though the weather was gloomy this week, students still enjoyed indoor recess time with friends!

PBIS
Next week in PBIS...
Next week students will be learning about bullying...
Your child will be learning how to recognize bullying in this first lesson. Bullying is when someone keeps being mean to someone else on purpose and that person has not been able to get it to stop. Bullying is unfair and one sided.
Being able to recognize bullying is the first step to getting it to stop!
