With 17 years of experience in education, Sandy Wyche Jr. is an experienced and dedicated teacher at Curtistene McCowan Middle School where he has been a valuable part of the team for the past 5 years. Wyche teaches sixth grade math and seventh grade honors math, using his deep understanding of his students' needs to foster their academic growth and confidence.

What Wyche loves most about teaching is helping students build mathematical confidence. He takes pride in creating successful moments for his students, which help them overcome their fears of math. Sandy understands that every student learns differently, and his mission is to provide them with the skills and mindset they need to succeed.

Wyche is continuously inspired by the many opportunities he has to mentor students, believing that education provides a powerful gateway to helping young people become productive citizens in society. He is passionate about not only teaching but also guiding his students to develop into individuals who are confident in their abilities and ready to make positive contributions to the world.

One of Wyche's favorite teaching moments comes when his students are able to stand in front of the class and teach a mini- lesson to their peers. He loves seeing students help clarify key concepts and teach one another, which fosters a collaborative and supportive learning environment.

To ensure his students reach their highest potential, Wyche works diligently to build strong relationships with his students and their families. He creates a safe and supportive classroom environment where students feel encouraged to take risks and grow. By displaying his own passion for math, Wyche shows his students the importance of receiving a quality education and strives to make his classroom a place where they can thrive.

Being recognized by his peers for his instructional excellence has been an honor for Wyche, reaffirming that his dedication to education is valued and appreciated. This recognition fuels his passion for teaching, and he remains committed to leading by example and inspiring others to become the best versions of themselves.

Receiving the 2025 Curtistene S. McCowan Middle School Campus Teacher of the Year award has not only motivated Wyche to stay humble and focused but has also energized his students. They understand that their hard work in the classroom directly contributed to his recognition, and this serves as a powerful reminder of the impact they can have on each other’s success.

Wyche is excited to continue leading his students and colleagues toward excellence.
