Homestead Elementary Honored for Academic Achievement
Homestead Elementary was recognized by the Colorado Department of Education for academic excellence during the 2023-24 school year. Homestead Elementary received the John Irwin School of Excellence Award, which is given to schools that demonstrate exceptional academic achievement over time.
The John Irwin School of Excellence Award was established in 2008. John Irwin Award schools received an “exceeds expectations” rating on the Academic Achievement indicator of the School Performance Frameworks, reflecting exceptional performance in math, English language arts, and science.
“This award affirms the intense and focused work of our exceptional educators and support staff as we implement our Strategic Plan and move toward our goal that every student will meet benchmarks and we will eliminate disproportionality in literacy by 2030,” said Christopher Smith, Superintendent of Cherry Creek Schools. “I thank our dedicated staff for their efforts to ensure that each and every one of our students will graduate with the knowledge and skills they need to successfully pursue their Pathway of Purpose.”

Book Fair
Dear Families,
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Plus, you can stock up your shelf for some summer fun reads! Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair:
Preview Dates: Wednesday, April 30th and Thursday, May 1st (During school hours)
Sale Dates: Monday, May 5th- Thursday, May 8th
Location: Homestead Innovation Space
Times: 11:00am-5:00pm
There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/homestead elem sch
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds.
Homestead has also set up an eWallet to collect donations specifically for purchasing books for students in need in our community. If you would like to contribute to this great cause, click on the link below to make your donation today!

Important Information!
All Visitors to our School:
We are so happy to welcome visitors and volunteers into our building this year. Whenever you come to Homestead, please bring your driver's license or state issued ID with you for check in.
Playgrounds After School:
Please help us make sure all of our kids are heading home right after school by staying off the playground equipment until 3:15 pm
Dogs:
We love them, but, please do not bring them onto school property. We have found that even on a leash, dogs can still present a risk to kids…some are afraid, some are allergic. Please help us make sure they feel safe here at school by leaving your dog at home. Thanks so much!
Bikes and Scooters:
“Walk Your Wheels”…please remind kids to walk their bikes and scooters in crosswalks and once they get onto school grounds. This reduces the risk of accidents with pedestrians.
Cell Phones and Smart Watches:
Students need to keep their cell phones and smart watches in their backpacks, turned off, during the day.
Back Parking Lot Helpful Hints
- For everyone’s safety, please end all cell phone use before entering the parking lot. The traffic in the back lot goes ONE WAY only. Enter from the north side and exit through the south side. DO NOT ENTER AGAINST THE ARROWS!
- There is no left turn out of the back parking lot onto Homestead Parkway. Vehicles must turn right.
- Please pull your vehicle all the way up to the crosswalk when possible before dropping off or picking up your child.
- Please have your child enter and exit the car from the PASSENGER SIDE ONLY. Drivers may not exit vehicle in the drop off lane for any reason. If you need to assist your child, please find a parking space.
- If you have dropped off your child, you may pull out and pass the cars that are curbside in order to exit the parking lot. Please pull forward slowly and anticipate that the drop off lane merges back into one lane after the crosswalk.
- Please only use the designated crosswalk when going to and from the parking lot. It is very important to show our kiddos where it is safe to cross, even when they are accompanied by an adult.
- Please remember that there are hundreds of kiddos walking next to moving cars – please drive slowly and attentively!
