President's Message
ATA Unit Members,
As we approach our Contract Ratification Vote (April 7–11), I want to emphasize the importance of being well-informed before casting your vote. Unfortunately, there is misinformation circulating, and it’s crucial that we base our decisions on facts rather than speculation. If you have any questions, please reach out directly to ATA. We are here to provide clear and reliable answers.
In recent weeks, I have spoken with many retirees who were understandably concerned about the proposed changes. Many expressed feeling left in the dark and sought clarity on what this means for them. I want to reassure you all—just as I have reassured them—that no one is losing their benefits. This agreement is about protecting what we have earned while ensuring long-term stability for both active members and retirees.
We understand that change can be unsettling, and many members fear that opening the door to adjustments now may lead to repeated requests in the future. While we cannot control what the District may propose in subsequent years, it is important to recognize that over the past three decades, we have made only a few changes to our health benefits. Each of these decisions was made thoughtfully, with the best interests of our members in mind. We acknowledge that any change can be difficult to accept, but we remain committed to navigating these challenges together, ensuring that any adjustments serve to strengthen and protect our collective well-being.
The vote will occur immediately after we return from spring break. Now is the perfect time to ask questions, gather information, and prepare to cast your vote. If anything seems unclear or questionable, consult with ATA—do not let misinformation sway this important decision.
As we wrap up this process, I also want to take a moment to wish you all a restful and well-deserved spring break. Take this time to recharge, spend time with loved ones, and enjoy a well-earned break.
When we return, let’s stand together, stay informed, and make our voices heard. Your vote matters—let’s make it count.
In solidarity,
Ralph Hernandez
