Do Your Students Know Their Learning Goals and How to Get There?
We are quickly moving toward conferences and the first report card of the year. Where do you expect your students to be academically and socially at this time? What skills (learning target) do you want them to demonstrate and how will you assess that? (success criteria). Our students need to know where they are going to have a clear path to get there. Be sure to have these conversations with your class(es) so there will be no surprises at report card time.
Example: Show them or post writing models that are exemplary and explain to the "why". Review the social skills and effort you expect and what exemplary citizenship might look like. What does excellent effort look like to you? I have attached some rubrics at the bottom of the staff news for citizenship and effort if you need a starting point. Goals help us GROW! Let us know if you need some support or ideas :) Debra

From the District Office
- Be sure to check the Employee Portal regularly, we are updating the page with new information.
-
- There's still time for kids ages 4-12 to read their way to a free In-N-Out Burger hamburger or cheeseburger through the San Diego Public Library and San Diego County Library Cover to Cover Club. Learn more or pick up a card at your local library! The program runs through Nov. 18. Details at https://bit.ly/3FglId9.
Costume Guidelines
The below guidance has been communicated to families as well:
Tuesday 10/31 will be the second day of Red Ribbon Week and students will be allowed to wear costumes to school, with limitations:
- No masks
- Face paint must not cover more than 1/2 of face
- No Blood or fake blood
- No weapons or fake weapons, this includes fire fighter axes and ninja stars
- No inflatables AT ALL
- Must be school appropriate attire (no spaghetti straps, offensive language or implications, no gang affiliation, crop tops, etc).
- Hats must still be removed indoors
- Costume wigs are allowed on this day only
- Wonder if your costume is okay? Ask!
- Bring a change of clothes-costumes are usually hot and uncomfortable. They rarely make it through the entire day.
Please start reviewing this information now, and encourage your children to ask questions, so we don't have any confusion on the day.
Dressing up is not mandatory for any school spirit days. When people do dress up, it takes a lot of courage and vulnerability. Nobody should be made fun of for a costume, or made to feel bad for showing school spirit. Let's all encourage positivity and kindness during spirit days (and every day) at Pepper Drive.
