π€©Only 1 week left to get to $10,000! π€©
https://www.getmovinfundhub.com/register?school_uuid=64e63f85d65b4
Parents are asked to create their child's link, then share the personalized link through email to family and friends and share the link on their social media.
Each share of their personalized link helps the band and allows them access to the Practice-A-Thon!
Our goal is to light up every state in the US with an Otto Band Donation! Last year, we raised over $9,000 for our kids! Let's aim for $10,000 this year! Check the USA Map link to see our current standings! Know someone in Alabama? Arkansas? Give 'em a call! Let this be your reason to call your grandma or your cousin! Every dollar helps! π§ Thank you in advance for helping to support these amazing band kids! They deserve the BEST! (Every school that lights up all 50 states gets entered into a drawing for a $1,000 Grant from Get Movin' Fundraising!)
Be sure to click on our new band calendar and check back often for updates! π
And! Be sure to sign up for private lessons this year! We have the best lesson staff around! π«
LET'S GO, DREAM TEAM! π

Otto Jazz Updates
Our first Otto Jazz Jam Session was great! They are asked to begin learning "Hooked on Feeling" and to listen to a variety of different jazz musicians and styles. Normally, we meet every Friday, but this Friday is our big Practice-a-thon Fundraiser, so we ask to meet on Friday Morning instead if at all possible. We open door 21 (the band hall doors) at 7:20 AM each morning. The front doors of the school will be locked. Thanks!
Beginning Band Focus of the Week
All assignments will always be posted in their band Google Classroom in the Classwork tab and official grades will always be in Skyward. Each week, all students will receive a new objective sheet.
Objective sheets are due each Monday and must be signed by a parent.
π€©Please sign up for Private Lessons if at all possible.π
Our private lesson staff is second to none! This is the BEST way to start in band! It's more than worth it!
Beginners should be working on musictheory.net - note identification exercises, Rhythm Rockers, Breezin' Thru Theory Lessons, Alphabet Master, and making sure they have all of their supplies and that they are all labeled with their name.
Be A Dream Team Parent Volunteer!
As they say, it takes a village. We have been blessed to have some super amazing parent support over the years with our amazing band program. We would not be able to do all of these things for these kiddos without your support throughout the school year. Your help is greatly appreciated! Please sign up to be a volunteer. You can't ever help (even if you're able to later) unless you're on the approved list. We have events that sneak up fast! Sign up NOW. π«Ά (p.s. This must be done each school year, and you must list each individual school you plan to help. Thx!) π
Sign up to Volunteer!
All volunteers will need to create an account and complete an application, online orientation and background check through the Plano ISD volunteer management system, VOLY, to be eligible for district/school volunteer opportunities. Please visit plano.voly.org to create a volunteer account and begin this process. These items will need to be completed by volunteers each school year.
An email will be sent to the volunteer applicant communicating the status of their application and criminal history search within 3-5 business days of completing these steps. Volunteer approval status can also be viewed by the volunteer by logging into their account. Volunteers will need to complete the online orientation as well to be eligible to volunteer. Once you have been officially approved, please email Mr. Killgo (philip.killgo@pisd.edu) to let him know you are an Otto Band Approved Volunteer!
Instrument Usage Fees Due
If your child is playing: French Horn, Euphonium, Tuba, Upper Band Percussion, Oboe, Bassoon, or a school owned flute, clarinet, or trumpet...you will owe the once-a-year instrument usage fee of $85. This can be paid ASAP by cash or check made out to Plano ISD. Your child can give this to a band director during band. This fee is due by September 16th. Parents, please click the link below to see the instrument specific supply list for your child.
Each instrument has a different supply list.
Supplies can be purchased from any local music store.
We recommend Tarpley or Music and Arts.
Everything can be done online.
Some band instruments are school owned and are not rental instruments.
These include: Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Euphonium, Tuba.
These instruments have a one time yearly usage fee of $85.
We ask that this be taken care of in August.
Cash or check made payable to Plano ISD given to the directors during band.
All other instruments are monthly rentals from a music store. See music store flyers below.
Please reach out if you have any questions at all, and we will be happy to help!
WHERE DO I PURCHASE SUPPLIES?
We have several options to choose from, but we recommend Tarpley or Music and Arts as these stores offer fantastic service and visit Otto regularly for instrument repair.
We recommend Dallas Percussion for all percussion students' supplies (https://www.denverpercussion.com/dallas.htm) and texasmarimas.com for their rental.
