FUEL School Newsletter
Week of October 13, 2025
Message from the Principal
Dear FUEL Families,
A big shout out and thank you to our PTA and especially to our President Kirsten Suer and the Field Day committee for putting on what was arguably our best Field Day & Walk-A-Thon event yet! I particularly love this day as it gives our FUEL students a chance to shine - to take on mentorship roles, to see new strengths in themselves, and to make connections with our younger K-2 students. We were also grateful to have National Honor Society students from both FHS & UHS to support the kindergarten classes this year - this cross-building collaboration and connection is what I love most about Ferndale.
Next week, we start week 8 (!) of the 2025-2026 school year. I want to take a moment to bring everyone's attention back to our "one word" this year - STRIVE. We continue to focus in our morning meetings and in our weekly shout out announcements on the idea that it takes WORK to improve in anything we do. Work is hard. School is hard. And both of those things are OKAY. One of my favorite trainer-type quotes is "What we do today determines how good our tomorrows are." Another one - "It's not just about how bad you want it, it's about how hard you're willing to work for it." We are trying to message this a lot with students this year - we have really gotten into some bad habits around high expectations and rigor. We want things to be too easy, we quit when things are hard. And thus, we don't grow. As a parent of now (two!!) teenagers, I'm seeing this more and more in my own home - and we have some changes to make around how we approach work and resilience and grit. I know I'm striving to be better each and every day, in every part of my life. More to come!
We also look forward this week to our all-school field trip on Tuesday, October 14th to Ferndale High School to see our Golden Eagle Marching Band perform this year's show! I am particularly excited to see all of our former FUEL students performing 🥰 I also hope to see everyone at our PTA Meeting Tuesday night at FUEL at 6:30 pm - Deputy Superintendent Felicia Wright will be in attendance to present on school safety and our emergency protocols. See you there!
Finally, please remember that Friday is now a virtual half day. Teachers will send out the assignments mid-week & on Friday as well, and will be available via email if students have questions on the work - if your student will not have access to a device, please just let the teacher know and they will send home work in packet form. I am linking the district's Virtual Days Letter - please read through carefully if you have questions. Have a great week!
With gratitude,
Mrs. Jeffrey

Student Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
For drop-off in the morning, please be sure to pull ALL the way up in the school driveway in the drop-off line. We will help students walk towards the entrance. This will help us to keep the line moving. Doors do not open until 8:20 am - there is no student supervision until 8:20 am. Also, please note that if students are not eating breakfast, they do not need to arrive at school until 8:28 pm. Students who arrive at 8:28 a.m. can head directly to their lockers and classrooms. Otherwise, students should report to the cafeteria for breakfast or to the gym. Car Line Safety Reminders HERE.
Please remember that the BUS driveway is ONLY for buses. This is a safety issue. Please only use the car line in the front of the building on Rosewood.
For pickup, please be sure to have your yellow identification card with student name and grade available and easy to see.
Attendance Reminders
Please call the attendance line each day your child will be absent from school. Any absence will remain unexcused until the office has been notified. The teachers appreciate an email reminder, but you must still call the office. Please call the attendance line at 248.547.0880, press the #1 option & leave a message with a reason for the absence.
Safe Snack Reminders
Thank you for helping to keep all of our students SAFE at FUEL by following our safe snack guidelines. This is a reminder that FUEL is a nut-, tree-nut, and sesame-restricted building - please double-check all ingredients before sending in a lunch or snack to school to ensure the safety of all students. Sample safe snack lists can be found here. Reminder: NO food birthday treats this year due to our allergy policy.
Important Forms Reminders
If your student has a medical need, it is vitally important that our office staff and teachers are aware. Please complete the medical forms available in the main office (or in the link below) and return to school ASAP.
Medical Authorization Form & Medical Treatment Form
All adults interested in volunteering during the 2025-2026 school year must have a Volunteer Form on file. This form should be submitted at a minimum of two weeks prior to the event in order to accommodate processing times. No adult will be allowed to volunteer or chaperone unless they have an approved form on file. Forms are available at the link below. Please note: all volunteer forms must be turned into the main office. In addition, you only need to fill out a volunteer form for one school - it will then cover all FPS campuses.
Breakfast and Lunch are free again this year as part of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). Please return this form to school ASAP in place of the normal Free and Reduced Lunch application.
