PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Message from Ms. Monette
Dear Brooklyn Middle STEAM School Families,
As we close out another remarkable school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the journey we’ve shared together. This year has been filled with growth, resilience, and achievement—both inside and outside the classroom. Our students have shown what it means to be curious learners, thoughtful leaders, and compassionate community members. Whether through academic progress, STEAM projects, leadership initiatives, or acts of kindness, they have demonstrated the true heart of a Bulldog.
To our 8th grade students—this is a special farewell. You have left your mark on Brooklyn Middle and we are so proud of all you’ve accomplished. As you prepare to take the next step into high school, know that you carry with you the knowledge, character, and strength to succeed. Believe in yourself, stay curious, and continue to lead with kindness. We will miss you and we wish you all the best in this exciting new chapter.
As we head into summer, I encourage all our families to take time to rest, reconnect, and enjoy time together. Summer is a perfect opportunity for students to keep their minds active and explore new experiences. Visit a local museum, take a family field trip, spend time outdoors, or dive into a great book together. The Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center libraries offer amazing summer reading programs, and nearby cultural centers and science museums have interactive exhibits perfect for middle schoolers. Even everyday moments - like cooking, walking in the park, or stargazing - can become opportunities for learning and discovery.
Thank you, families, for your partnership and ongoing support. You are a vital part of our school community, and it is through our collaboration that our students thrive. I hope your summer is filled with joy, rest, and meaningful time with loved ones.
We look forward to welcoming many of you back in the fall. To our 8th grade graduates, we’ll be cheering you on from afar.
With gratitude and best wishes,
Kim Monette
Principal

AVID- Advancement Via Individual Determination
On May 21st BMS celebrated its 8th grade AVID students completing the middle school AVID program. The thirty students graduating from the AVID program have spent countless hours acting as leaders in their community, developing organizational skills, practicing critical thinking skills, and learning more about different college and career pathways. Thank you 8th grade AVID students for the positive impact you have made at BMS! You will all be greatly missed!
STEAM Creativity Fair Highlights
The variety of innovative projects, engaging activities, interactive events, and even the clever door decorations and lockers truly showcased the talent and passion within our school. SOCIAL MEDIA SAFETY GUIDE FOR FAMILIES
Help Your Middle Schooler Navigate Social Media Safely
As parents/guardians of middle school students, it's essential to guide your children's use of social media. These platforms offer both positive and negative aspects, so it's crucial to strike a balance. Social media can be a valuable tool for kids to connect and learn. However, it also comes with risks like cyberbullying and excessive screen time. To help your child, consider these tips:
1. Set Clear Rules:
Establish clear guidelines on how much time your child can spend on social media, which platforms they can use, and what content is appropriate. Creating and enforcing these rules will help your child understand responsibility.
2. Teach Responsibility:
Educate your child about online dangers and responsible behavior. Talk about cyberbullying, privacy concerns (is there location being shared on social media), and the responsibility of accepting consequences for choices made online. Encourage open communication so they can come to you with any concerns.
3. Keep an Eye Out:
While it's crucial to trust your child, it's equally important to monitor their online activity, especially when they're in middle school. Keep an eye on their friends, posts, and messages to ensure their safety and well-being.
4. Use Parental Controls:
Consider using parental control tools to limit access to certain apps and websites. These tools can help you manage screen time, filter content, and keep tabs on your child's online interactions.
5. Be a Role Model:
Demonstrate responsible social media use, as children often emulate their parent or guardian's behavior.
6. Encourage Offline Activities:
Promote a balance between online and offline activities, like sports, hobbies, and reading.
7. Promote Real-Life Connections:
Encourage in-person interactions with friends and meaningful conversations.
Social media can be a double-edged sword for middle school students. While it offers valuable opportunities for social interaction and learning, it also presents potential risks.
As a parent or guardian, it's your responsibility to guide and protect your child as they navigate the digital world. By setting clear boundaries, educating them about online safety, monitoring their activity, and leading by example, you can help your middle school student make the most of their online experiences while staying safe and grounded in the real world.
