Veteran's Day
Our 2nd grade students will be leading our school’s Veteran’s Day program on Tuesday, November 10th at 8:00 am in the BES Cafeteria. Our Texan Choir students will be singing The Star Spangled Banner. Parents are invited to attend! Our whole school will be attending the celebration.
If your family has a veteran that would be willing to come to our celebration, please sign them up HERE. We would love to be able to recognize them!
2nd Grade Families can see more information HERE.
Art with Mrs. McQuade
The BESt Artist are Bursting with Creativity!
The Bransford Art program is off to a fantastic start! Our amazing young artists have been hard at work, and we can’t wait for you to see their masterpieces!
We will be uploading our work this year on Artsonia. For those who are new to Branfords this year, you will receive an email invite to register for Artsonia. This website is perfect for sharing or printing your child’s artwork this holiday season, with 20% of proceeds supporting the Bransford Art Program. Returning families can use their existing login to view and purchase past projects as well.
Recently, the students have been hard at work on the following…
*Pre-K ~ Pumpkins with Pizazz
*Kindergarten ~ Rainbow Crayons
*1st Grade ~ Oil Pastel Owls
*2nd Grade ~ Pet Fish (Paint Resist)
*3rd Grade ~ Value Pumpkins
*4th Grade ~ Fall Landscapes
*5th Grade ~ Glowing Chalk Leaves
*3rd/4th Grade Studio ~ Gelli Printmaking Leaves with Warm and Cool Colors. We also had a discussion on what makes a good composition.
I’m so excited to see our students continue exploring, creating, and growing as artists this year. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions!
Music/Piano with Mrs. Benson
Piano
All of our 2-5 students have had a chance to have lessons in the piano lab! All their piano music is in their SeeSaw activities (2nd grade) or Canvas (3-5). They are welcome to practice at home on a real piano/keyboard.
Just a reminder that all 2nd-5th students need to bring headphones for use in the piano lab. Only wired headphones work with the pianos. Bluetooth headphones (unless they have a cord) and lightning port (Apple) headphones do not work. We only have a few pairs of extra headphones in the lab, so it’s important that all students bring their own.
Morning Melodies
If your child is interested in signing up for Morning Melodies, they can sign up HERE (Any 2nd-5th Grade student can sign up). For more information on Morning Melodies, click HERE.
General Music
In music class, we are working very hard on brushing up on our musical skills. We are working on singing, music literacy, instrument/drumming technique, barred instrument pieces, body percussion, singing games, speech pieces, canons, world music, and all kinds of things!
Texan Choir
Texan Choir is rocking and rolling! We currently have 75 singers in choir and rehearsals are going very well! We are preparing The Star Spangled Banner for Veteran’s Day, as well as several selections for the Colleyville Tree Lighting on Saturday, November 22.
PE with Coach Smith
We’ve had a fantastic first nine weeks in PE! Students have had so much fun playing cooperative games, learning about physical fitness and conflict resolution, and practicing their volleyball skills. We also completed our Safety Unit, where students learned about school and playground safety, bike safety, and fire, weather, and water safety.
Additionally, our 3rd–5th graders completed their Fall FitnessGram Assessments and wrote SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Based). I am so proud of the goals they created, and I can’t wait to see them achieve their personal best throughout the school year!
Over the next nine weeks, we’ll be wrapping up our volleyball unit, building our football and badminton skills, and exploring topics like teamwork and healthy choices.
Please remember to have your child wear tennis shoes on PE days- this is a district safety requirement.
3rd–5th graders: Wednesday/Friday (Blue, Green, Purple) or Tuesday/Thursday (Red, Orange, Yellow)
Pre-K–2nd graders: Every day!
If your student participates in activities outside of school (sports, dance, etc.), I’d love to cheer them on! You’re welcome to share their schedule with me at bethany.smith@gcisd.net. While I can’t attend every event, I love supporting our amazing BES students whenever possible!
Theatre with Mrs. Culpepper
This nine weeks has been great! We have so much fun with pantomime and learning theatre games.
In our lower grades we have been working on Pantomime. I’m sure some of you have seen your students pulling a fake rope or trying to escape from a box. This 2nd 9 weeks we will start exploring our voices and how we can use our voice to create characters.
2nd grade has started working on their Veteran’s Day performance. More about that is to come.
In the older grades we also worked on tableau and pantomime and will start learning about plot and figuring out how a play works. We will also work on winter plays.
Shrek is well underway in 5th grade. Rehearsals are going fantastic!! We can’t wait for you to see it!
