Volleyball Improves to 14-4; Sets Sights on Playoffs
Monarch Volleyball had a very active week, playing 8 matches in 7 days, winning 6 and losing 2. One major highlight of the past week was the team taking first place in the Eagle Invitational hosted by Dakota Ridge High School last weekend. This tournament featured some very tough non-League competition, but the Yotes prevailed, winning all of their matches except one, to end up with a 4-1 record for the tournament.
In League play, Monarch dominated Silver Creek last Tuesday, with an easy 3-set victory. On Thursday, they faced undefeated Legacy, which was a much tougher match. After dropping the first set, the Yotes fought back to win the second, and they kept in close in the 3rd and 4th but couldn’t prevail. And yesterday, the team took on Niwot at home in their annual Pink Out game to support breast cancer awareness. In a thrilling match, the Coyotes beat Niwot in 3 straight sets, 26-24, 26-24, 27-25; it doesn’t get closer than that! They face Frederick away on Thursday.
The regular season is coming to an end on October 24, with a Friday home game to honor the 4 seniors: Eva Becht, Maya Grider, Ava Maliawco and Anya Prater, with the Varsity team taking on Longmont at 6:30. The team is gunning to make the post-season playoffs for the first time in several years—watch this space!
Coyotes Roll Past Loveland 38-21, Extend League Win Streak to Seven
Varsity:
The Coyotes secured a significant victory against the Loveland Red Wolves last week, winning 38-21.
Highlights from Monarch's performance:
- The Coyotes moved to a 5-2 overall record and a perfect 2-0 in the 4A North 1 League.
- Monarch has an undefeated 7-0 league record since head coach Jeff Santee took over the program last year.
- Running back Malakhi Payne was a key player, scoring three touchdowns in the game.
- The team showed resilience, overcoming holding penalties and responding to Loveland's scores with their own, including a kickoff return touchdown by Cooper Craze.
- Coach Jeff Santee expressed pride in his team's ability to withstand momentum shifts, noting that they frequently scored on the next play after penalties or Loveland scores.
- This win further solidifies Monarch's position as a strong contender in league play, extending their winning streak and demonstrating their ability to handle pressure.
Lost 6-34 in a tough loss.
Chase Ivancic #20 had a 1-yard touchdown, set up by a 40 yard pass from QB Theo Mellish #12 to Ryan Lehrer. Ivancic also had an interception.
Girls Rugby Remains Undefeated in League Play
Our Monarch Girls Rugby Varsity team continues their incredible season, remaining undefeated in league play with two strong wins this past weekend — defeating East 26–5 and Summit 2 19–10. The team brought tremendous heart and energy throughout the day, showcasing their trademark teamwork and determination.
The Monarch U16 girls also had an impressive showing, edging out Glendale 17–14 and stepping in to support other teams throughout the tournament. Their grit and sportsmanship were on full display from start to finish.
With these victories, the Varsity squad holds the top seed heading into the final week of league play and is well-positioned for a run at the Rugby Colorado Fall 7s State Championship.
The girls play their final tournament of the regular season this week at Long Lake.
Interested in joining Monarch Girls Rugby? Practices are held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 5:30–7:00 p.m. at Williams Field. Come be part of this championship-caliber program!

Flag Football Ranked 8th Coming Off 2-1 Week
Monarch had a strong defensive rushing game against Kennedy High School on Tuesday in Denver, with multiple interceptions and extra point conversions against the opposing team. At half time the score was 37-0 and the second half started with an instant touchdown for the girls. The 4th quarter #12 Sidney Miller throws to #23 Abbey Elalouf for a touchdown by #10 Marin Kunkel with #8 Ivey Shumway scoring the extra point for the team. #12 Sidney Miller runs in for a rushing touchdown for 12 yards ending the score at 50-0!

Monarch Soccer Shuts Out #5 Legacy in Strategic 0-0 Draw
Varsity
After three focused days of training a new formation specifically for Legacy, the boys executed the plan perfectly against the #5 ranked team in the state. The goal was to keep them off the scoreboard — mission accomplished! The game ended in a hard-fought 0-0 draw, a fantastic result that showed great discipline and teamwork.
JV
What a week for JV! The squad traveled to D’Evelyn to face Chatfield and came away with a 2-1 win, with Will P. marking his return from injury by scoring the opening goal and Josh adding the second. Then on Thursday against Legacy, Josh was on fire — netting a hat trick! It was a wild back-and-forth match that ended in a draw. The team continues to build momentum and confidence heading into the final stretch of the season.
C Team
A busy week saw C Team play three matches — a 1-1 draw at Silver Creek, a thrilling 3-2 win over ThunderRidge, and a tough 3-1 loss to Legacy that didn’t reflect the quality of play. The boys controlled much of the match despite a long week, showing heart and progress.
Boys Rugby Dominating
18U Kick It Up a Notch
A dominant weekend for the 18U squad with big wins all around—36–0 over North, 57–0 against Boulder, and 59–17 versus Castle Rock. The defense was dialed in, and the boys found plenty of space to run, racking up tries and confidence along the way.
16U Kicking Through the Competition
Another strong weekend for the 16U squad with three solid wins—38–0 over East, 19–14 against a tough Titans side, and 24–7 versus the Hammers. Despite a few injuries, the boys continue to show depth and determination. With one week of pool play left before finals, it’s going to take every player stepping up to keep the momentum rolling.
The Monarch co-ed mountain bike team brought home a second place team finish at the Chalk Creek stampede in Buena Vista. Defending her position for the fourth time, Haylee Jo Jackson in first place. Ava Patrick took third place. Joining them on the podium is Kyson Webb in fifth place. Congrats to all our riders on a terrific performance. We want to give a special thank you to all our seniors.
