From the Principal From the Principal

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer. Here at the high school, we have been busy preparing for students’ return. Over the past few months, we completed a major paving project, refurbished a classroom, contracted with Mike Donahue—who will speak to our students in October—and welcomed a new Spanish teacher, Mrs. Robberts, to our staff.

I am excited for the year ahead and look forward to working together to make it a successful and memorable one. As always, if you have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at brent.garee@centerburgschools.org.

Let’s make this a great school year!

Remember, in order to receive a schedule, you and your student needs to complete the Final Forms paperwork.

Attendance Attendance

Attendance is critical to student success. Over the last few years, we have been working on improving student attendance. As a result, students' grades and test scores have improved. Please make sure that your students are in school unless they are ill. If your student is not going to be at school, please notify the office through email at attendance.ms.hs@centerburgschools.org.

Ohio's New Cell Phone Law Ohio's New Cell Phone Law

As part of House Bill 33, the biennial Ohio state operating budget signed into law by Governor DeWine on June 30, 2025, new guidelines now prohibit students from using cell phones during the instructional day under most circumstances.

Effective for the 2025–2026 school year, each school district, community school, and STEM school must adopt a policy banning student cell phone use during all instructional hours—whether a student is in the classroom, hallways, or any supervised school area. Exceptions are limited and may include a documented medical need.

The intent behind this change is to reduce distractions, enhance student focus, and foster more meaningful engagement in the classroom. Aa a result of this bill, students will not be permitted to be on their cell phones from the hours 8:16 a.m. to 2:54 p.m. If you need to contact your student, please call the school at (740) 625-6055. If a student needs to contact a parent, they will be able to use the office phone.

Student Parking Student Parking

As we return to school this year, the parking lots will look a little different. The student parking lot has been repaved and striped. We have also added an emergency lane that connects to the Centerburg Church of Christ. This lane is only to be used in the event of an emergency situation.

Also, students, please do not park in the far south side of the main lot where the basketball hoops are. This will allow room for outside activities on the parking lot. Thank you for your consideration.

As part of the evening’s activities, a Freshman Orientation will be held in the high school auditorium from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Freshmen and their parents are encouraged to attend this session to receive key information about the transition to high school and to meet the teachers who will be working closely with the Class of 2029. teachers.
