FY26 Budget Public Hearing

The School Committee held a public hearing on the FY2026 Budget at the February 13 meeting. The FY2026 Initial Budget Request was previously presented to the School Committee on February 6. Staff project an $8.2 million deficit for FY26, and the School Committee charged staff with identifying programmatic reductions for their consideration to close this gap. Twenty members of the community spoke at the Public Hearing, after which Superintendent Guillory shared a series of possible budget reductions. These budget reductions were created with an eye to maintaining core programming for all students and providing mandated support services for targeted populations. Dr. Guillory noted that, absent any additional revenue, a deficit of this magnitude can’t be closed without making difficult and painful choices. The presentation and the School Committee’s discussion is available in the meeting recording, here.

The discussion of the FY2026 Budget will continue at the School Committee’s next regular meeting, scheduled for March 6 at 6:00pm. The meeting will include a period of Public Comment. Members of the public are welcome to write to the School Committee with their comments about the FY26 Budget at school_committee@psbma.org

Independent Review of PSB Budget and Management Processes

Working in collaboration with the Town School Partnership Committee, and partly in response to the district’s significant projected deficit in FY 2026, the School Committee voted to approve a Scope of Work (SOW) for a review of PSB’s budget and management processes. Town Administrator Charles Carey joined the meeting to discuss the SOW. The final report, expected in late April, will be shared with the School Committee and the Town School Partnership.
