Mustang Update

We will be hosting the area 2A Substate here on Friday and Saturday night. By now, you have realized that the KSHSAA is using a new format this year with the upper seeds in each division hosting games until the final games are to be played. Valley Heights is your host for those two nights of action. There will two games each night with the winner of both of those games advancing to the state tournament at Bramlage Arena in Manhattan, Kansas. Boys actions is scheduled for Friday night with games times at 6:00 and 7:30 pm. The first game will be a match-up between Mission Valley and Valley Falls with the second game pitting Rossville against Maur Hill. On Saturday night our Lady Mustangs will play Kansas City – Central Christian at 5:00 pm and Alma-Wabaunsee will square off with D. West at 6:30 pm. This is a KSHSAA sanctioned event so no passes will be accepted. Only those people listed on the pass gate will be allowed in at no charge. Come on out and enjoy some really good basketball!

With the winter sports season winding down the spring sports programs have started up! Our track and field, softball, baseball and golf teams have braved the cold conditions and gotten in a few days of practice. This, of course is only for those athletes who are no longer competing in the winter sports. Participation numbers in some of these programs look like this. We have 8 girls and 11 boys out for 7th grade track and 7 girls and 10 boys out for 8th grade track. Golf numbers are way up this year with a total of 17 going out! The breakdown there is 5 girls and 12 boys. We want to wish our coaches and participants the best of luck this year!

On March 26th, Valley Heights will host the TVL Music contest so we will not have classes that day! This only applies to our students out here at the Jr./Sr. High School. Our staff will be on duty that day either helping with the contest or involved with Professional Development. So, please remember, no classes at Valley Heights Jr./Sr. High School on March 26th! We also need to give a shout out to Ms. Coleman and Mrs. Coleman for doing a great job of getting us prepared to host this event!

Spring Break is exactly one week away! Hopefully the colder temperatures are behind us and this last little ice storm is the signal for warmer temperatures, longer days and some needed outdoor time! Spring Break is scheduled for March 17th through March 21st. March 14th signals the end of our 3rd nine week grade period so it is important that our students work hard this last week to make sure all assignments are completed and they finish the grading period in fine fashion.

As we all know once we start the 4th nine weeks and head toward the end of the school year we find the school calendar is loaded with events and activities. We start looking at our spring sports of baseball, softball, track & field, and golf and those activities alone fill up the days. When we add in the end of year banquets, awards nights, and many of our other activities it doesn’t take long to see how busy we can be. That would seem to make the 4th nine weeks to slowly pass by but just the opposite occurs. The last grading period of the year flies by for both staff and students. Before long we will be hosting graduation exercises for the Class of 2025 and making plans for the summer! Let’s stay focused and make the end of this school year the best ever for Valley Heights!!

Have a great week and Let’s go Mustangs!

Mr. Savage

Being Fancy!!!

The culinary arts students went on a field trip Lincoln to apply all the fun things they've learned over the past couple years. We visited the Chocolate Season to experience handmade chocolate and the Green Gateau for a European inspired meal.
