Welcome back! Welcome back!

We hope everyone had a nice summer break. We are so excited for another great year. Here are a couple of reminders from Principal Leite:

  • 7:40 to 8:10 am - Students can purchase breakfast in the cafeteria (entering through the door on the east side of the school).
  • 8:00 am - Students may begin to line up behind the school with their class. All bikes, scooters, and skateboards must be left in the racks in the back (don’t forget to lock them up!). If students are not eating breakfast at the school, please do not send them earlier than 8:00 am as they will not be supervised.
  • 8:10 to 8:15 am - Teachers will pick up their classes from behind the school and walk them to the classroom. All students should enter the school through the back doors. (If it is raining, snowing, or below 20 degrees, we will open all entrances to the school starting at 8:00 am for students to quickly enter).
  • 8:20 am - The school bell rings and school begins promptly at this time. Students arriving after 8:20 am must pick up a tardy slip and be counted as tardy.
  • 3:00 pm, Mondays to Thursdays (and 1:10 pm on Fridays) - School ends when the bell rings. Teachers will walk their students to the closest door and release their students outside. Siblings or carpool groups should choose a location outside to meet up since students will be leaving through different doors. Students are not allowed to come back into the school to call parents for 15 minutes.
  • 3:30 pm (1:40 pm on Fridays) - All students must be picked up or leave the school property. After this time, there is no supervision for students.

We will continue to focus on attendance as a school district. As Superintendent Dau said, “The best thing that you can do as a parent to ensure your child’s success is to make sure they come to school, every day, on time.” We want every student to aim for 95% attendance. We understand and support you keeping your students home when they are sick. If your child will be absent, please email lakeviewattendance@provo.edu and cc your child’s teacher to report the absence.

Student safety is our priority. We encourage as many kids as possible to walk or bike to school. If you must drive, PLEASE be respectful, slow, and kind as you navigate the front drop-off and pick-up area. Remember our three traffic rules: (1) Stay in your car; (2) Only cross at crosswalks; (3) Only drop off and pick up students in the lane closest to the curb.

In accordance with state law, Lakeview requires that all adults coming into the building between the hours of 8:00 am and 3:00 pm bring ID and check in in the vestibule, using our visitor management system to have a badge printed. Please give yourself extra time to complete this process.

Since the installation of signage and a fence, we are seeing better use of crosswalks. However, we continue to struggle with traffic stopping in the pick-up lanes after school. We have two lanes - (1) one by the curb where students exit and enter cars and (2) one to drive straight through. Please NEVER leave your car unattended in either lane and do not stay parked in the lanes so traffic keeps moving. If you need to wait longer than a few minutes to pick kids up, please park in the parking lot. We are also asking students to not play games in the front while waiting to be picked up.
