CELEBRATING LEGEND WISH WEEK
Students and staff enjoyed participating in Legend High School’s Wish Week! Our school community enthusiastically supported Dominik's dream of going on a Disney cruise. Students showed their spirit throughout the week. They participated in daily spirit days and celebrated donations on the announcements. Numerous families also made online donations, purchased Wish Week t-Shirts and attended events at the High School.
Gold Rush students and staff presented our school donation at the Legend assembly Friday. Gold Rush was proud to present Dominik and his family $2,883.
We thank our school community for their generosity and support. It was incredible to see our families come together for Dominik!
UNDERSTANDING THE IMPACT OF THE PAST
Students are studying the past and how it has influenced our current lives. In first grade students are studying famous Americans and national symbols, such as the Liberty Bell, Mount Rushmore and the Statue of Liberty. Students used Pebble Go and Epic to research important people and monuments. Students will work collaboratively on shared projects that they will present to their peers.
Third graders are also comparing the past and the present. After studying artifacts from the “olden days,” such as cassette tapes, walkmans and records, students reflected on how technology has evolved. Students also interviewed family members about their education, upbringing and environment. Students shared with their classmates the similarities and differences across generations.
Fifth graders are currently writing research papers on colonial America. They are organizing their new learning, facts and quotes by different structures, such as chronological, cause and effect, or descriptive. Students are determining which organizational structure best conveys their information.
Students' reflections on the past helped them see how their world has come to be.
HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMS FOR PRIMARY STUDENTS
Chaparral High School students performed a play for primary students this week. Their play, titled Mcquadle, was a charming show about a young dragon who finds his purpose in life. He eventually discovers security in his friends and his true dreams. Students enjoyed the humorous, kind hearted comedy. We thank the High School for bringing this opportunity to Gold Rush!
LIBRARY REMODEL IS UNDERWAY
GRE's library remodel is underway and students are eager to see their new space! All the shelves and furniture have been removed and a fresh coat of paint has been applied. A new color was chosen for the upper railing, an accent wall and the elevator. Cleaning the floors is next on the list, followed by the new furniture in early February.
As you are aware, our remodel is made possible through our Digger Dash Dollars and school funds. We thank our parent community for contributing to this meaningful project. We feel fortunate that our strong financial position and our community contributions allow us to complete a full remodel.
We cannot wait for students, staff and parents to see the bright new space!
We will share opportunities for families to visit the remodeled space at the end of February.
