Wiggin Street Parent Update

Dear Wiggin Street Families,

What a short week it has been after our surprise snow day on Tuesday! With the colder temperatures settling in, please remember that we go outside for recess as long as the “feels like” temperature is 20 degrees or higher. Be sure your child comes to school with a warm coat, gloves, and a hat so they can enjoy time outside. We will take every opportunity to get students out for fresh air and movement.

It’s hard to believe we have just two weeks left before Winter Break. Middle of the Year Assessments will begin next week and continue into January. We also look forward to several festive activities, starting with the Holiday Shop next Thursday. Families are welcome to shop with their students beginning at 8:30 a.m., and classes will attend throughout the morning. Please take a look at the Upcoming Events section for additional details, including the Winter Performance for grades 3–5 on December 16th.

Warm regards,
Christy Grandstaff
Principal, Wiggin Street Elementary

First grade students at Wiggin Street welcomed Ben and Catherine Haws to their classrooms today. Ben and his wife, Wilma, are authors of the book Hooray for Carnival Day and Catherine is the illustrator. They partnered with Peoples Bank of Gambier to provide a copy of their book to each of the first grade students. This picture book is about balancing healthy money habits: giving, saving, and spending. You can learn more about the book here.

The students were very excited to learn more about the authors and illustrator and to receive their very own book! Thank you to Peoples Bank of Gambier for helping to make this happen!

Wellness Wednesday

This week, Bryn Carrigan, Kenyon College Senior, returned to do Yoga with our Wiggin Street students.

Students are working hard to earn 50 PBIS points this quarter to get the opportunity to meet Jim Basketball Jones. This will be an assembly that no one will want to miss! His bio is below about the challenges that he overcome having dyslexia.
