Bulldog Bulletin

The snow and a visit from Lake Zurich Fire Department made for a fun start to school today! As part of Safety Week, LZFD visited Sarah Adams to greet students at arrivals and give out high-fives!
Our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders have been giving their all on IAR testing this week, we are so proud of them! When we return from break we will conclude with the Math sections of testing. Please see our flyer below for more spirit days to come! We know our students are going to do an excellent job, and want to continue cheering them on!
While Sarah Adams is closed next week, the little library in front of school is not and is open for anyone to stop by and book shop! This library was installed by the PTO in the fall for all families to use and enjoy, so consider stopping by to take a peek. You can shop for good books to read and/or you may want to drop off books for others to enjoy. Any books you take are yours to enjoy. If you are donating books, we only ask that you only put books in the library. If it is full, please do not place any books outside the library. We want to continue our reading stamina, even while away, so please encourage your child(ren) to keep reading over break!
I hope you have a wonderful Spring Break and enjoy the time with family and friends.

Solar Eclipse: April 8th
On Monday, April 8, 2024 all of North America will experience an eclipse of the sun. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon blocks any part of the sun. This is the first time since 2017 a solar eclipse will be visible on a path across the entire continental United States. https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses
The partial solar eclipse will begin at 12:51pm, with the maximum eclipse happening at 2:07 pm where 93% of the sun will be blocked. The partial eclipse will end at 3:22pm. To participate in this rare scientific event, our school has organized a structured, supervised viewing opportunity for students.
Safety during the eclipse viewing is our top priority. Because parts of the sun will still be visible, we are providing solar eclipse glasses that must be worn outside at all times. Students and staff will be required to wear solar glasses during the structured activity. Children will be supervised at all times. https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/safety/
In order to best manage safe eclipse viewing, other precautionary measures will be taken to protect students:
P.E. classes during the eclipse event will be held indoors.
Students will have indoor recess during the time of the eclipse.
Students will be instructed to wear their glasses during dismissal.
If you do not wish to have your student participate in the outdoor viewing of the solar eclipse please email your child’s teacher and principal by Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Students not participating in the outdoor viewing will participate in an alternative activity.
There are LOTS of exciting PTO sponsored events coming up:

Health Update
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced that it is adopting the updated guidance from the CDC to simplify recommendations for dealing with COVID-19 - effective Friday, March 1st. We have since received confirmation from the Lake County Health Department (LCHD) that school districts are free to move forward adopting the same guidance.
Please see below for changes to guidance for students who test positive for COVID:
Students who test positive for COVID “can return to normal activities when symptoms have been improving for 24 hours,” per LCHD
If there was a fever present, students may return to school once their fever has been gone for 24 hours without use of a fever-reducing medication
This updated guidance removes the mandatory 5-day isolation period, and instead focuses on symptom monitoring - which means that a student may be able to return to school in fewer than 5 days, or may be out more than 5 days (depending on the severity of their symptoms)
Please continue to monitor your child for symptoms of illness, and communicate with the school health office if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to implementing this adjusted, more flexible guidance with respect to COVID cases.
