A note from Dr. Burdett - 8/23/26 A note from Dr. Burdett - 8/23/26

Bobcat Nation,

It has been another amazing week at CHS! We have a lot of amazing things going on and some important dates coming up. Make sure students check their grade level Google Classroom frequently to avoid missing important dates and forms. This week, all students should have a voting form for this year's yearbook theme, and seniors have a form to vote for class of 2027 most impactful teacher and Project Grad details.

We will start enforcing tardies this week, but this should not be an issue because students have been doing a great job of getting to class on time, and the halls are clear before the bell rings for each class. Teachers are also beginning to draft students to come for tutoring during CATS time. A reminder that CATS time is from 9:30-10:01 each day, and students can use this time to study and/or get ahead on their assignments.

We have our college and career fair coming up, and our fall sports are back in action. Friday is beach/hawaiian dress up day, and we encourage our students to get into the spirit and wear clothes, hats, and footwear that goes along with this theme. Let's have an amazing week!

For kids,

John

Dress, Grooming, and Telecommunications

Please click the following link for the CISD approved Student Handbook. We have included the specific pages for information on the standards for Dress and Grooming and for Telecommunications.

Student Handbook

  • Dress and Grooming on pages 58-59

  • Telecommunications on pages 59-61

House Bill 1481

House Bill 1481, passed by the Texas Legislature, prohibits students from using personal communication devices while on school property during the school day. The “school day” is defined as when a student enters the school building and ends when the dismissal bell rings. The ban includes classrooms, locker rooms, cafeterias, hallways, passing periods and restrooms.

Prohibited personal communication devices (PCDs) for students include, but are not limited to, the following items:

  • Cell phones

  • Smart Watches

  • Tablets

  • Laptops

  • Headphones

  • Earbuds

  • Smart eyewear

  • Gaming Devices

  • Radios

  • Pagers

Student ID Badges and Minga

At Celina High School, the safety and well-being of our students are our highest priorities. As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment, all students will be required to wear their student ID badge on a lanyard throughout the school day.

The school will provide every student with a CHS lanyard, although students are welcome to wear their own school-appropriate lanyard if they prefer.

This year, we will begin using Minga, the same student ID system successfully implemented at Moore Middle School. In addition to serving as a visible form of identification, Minga provides several important benefits that enhance both safety and the student experience:

  • Improves campus safety and security by allowing staff to quickly identify who belongs on campus and recognize students who may need assistance.

  • Recognizes and celebrates positive behavior by giving us another way to acknowledge the outstanding choices that the vast majority of our students make every day.

  • Supports student learning by allowing us to efficiently identify and invite students to tutorials, interventions, enrichment opportunities, and other CATS activities designed to help them succeed.

  • Protects instructional time by helping reduce unnecessary movement throughout the building and discouraging students from leaving class to congregate with friends during instruction.

This initiative is not about adding rules for the sake of rules. It is about creating an environment where students are safe, engaged, and focused on learning while ensuring that every Bobcat is known, supported, and celebrated.

Together, we will continue to build a campus culture where every student feels connected, every classroom is protected, and every minute of learning matters.
