CHIP provides free or low-cost health care to Pennsylvania kids and teens.
Policy Reminders- Attendance
“As a reminder, students may be excused from school when observing a religious holiday, which is observed by a bona fide religious group, upon prior written request from the parent/guardian. Please communicate upcoming absences to our building secretary so that they may be reviewed and recorded appropriately in our student information system.
Other excused absences include bereavement, medical or dental appointments, pre-approved religious instruction, pre-approved educational travel, and others. For our full attendance policy, please review Policy 204 and its accompanying administrative regulations. “
Exemption From Instruction Policy (Policy 105.2)
The purpose of this policy is to comply with the requirement of the State Board of Education that school districts provide parents the right to have their children excused from specific instruction that conflicts with their religious beliefs.
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (reauthorized in 2015 by Title IX, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act) is a federal law that "guarantees educational rights and supports for students experiencing homelessness." Its core purpose is to "address the barriers that children and youth in homeless situations face in enrolling, attending, and succeeding in school" by ensuring they have "equal access to the same free, appropriate public education as other children and youth." This includes ensuring "school stability despite residential mobility" and providing "educational and other supports" to help them meet academic standards.
