Message From the Principal Message From the Principal

Dear Wildwood Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Whether it was busy or relaxing, I hope it gave you the opportunity to recharge and regroup after an exciting first three weeks of school. Thank you for coming last Thursday to Back to School Night. I’m sure you were as impressed as I was with the quality of presentations our teachers put together for the evening. Wildwood is truly fortunate to have such a talented group of teachers working with our students. As I’ve said before and will continue to say, each student’s education is maximized when it is a true partnership between teachers and families. Back to School Night provides an opportunity for that partnership to be started and I know it will continue to grow throughout the school year.

If you are looking for additional ways to partner with the school, I would encourage you to submit an interest form to join the Wildwood Elementary School Site Council. As I mentioned last week, this is the first year that each of the Tri-Schools will have their own site councils. This provides a unique opportunity for us to identify needs specific to Wildwood and create goals that the school community will work together to achieve. We need 3-4 parents to participate. Please consider joining and serving our community.

And, finally, I would like to invite you to an event sponsored by our Belonging Committee. They will kick off their work for the year with coffee and treats on Tuesday, September 9th at 8:30 AM at the park at the intersection of Wildwood and Prospect. The Belonging Committee works to make sure that everyone at Wildwood feels included, valued, and welcomed at our school. Please join us to hear more about what this committee does and to come together as a school community. All are welcome and encouraged to join!

Thank you for all of the ways that you all support our community!

In partnership,

Amy Fry

We wanted to give the community a very friendly reminder to please visit the Piedmont Store at Wildwood Essentials – Piedmont Education Foundation - Piedmont Store.

Where does your money go? Donations to WPC go directly into its general fund, which is then directly spent on:

  • relied-upon stipends to the school, library and classrooms for supplies and repairs
  • schoolwide events including Community Coffee, Winterfest, and Spring Festival
  • Belonging Circles
  • new family meetups
  • ASE and more

WPC also relies on your donations to help provide gifts and lunches to our amazing staff, and financially support Wildwood with any capital improvements that might come up throughout the school year.

We can’t do this work without your support! While everyone is invited and welcome to join all WPC events, to contribute financially to WPC means to actively support its efforts and programs it provides.

The various donation requests that come at you can be overwhelming. Please check out this handy reference sheet to know where your funds go.

Thank you for all your support!

Save the date: 8:30-9:30a Thursday, 9/18, for the next Community Coffee hosted by WPC’s Welcome Committee and featuring special guests. More info to come!

Harvest Festival 9/21 Harvest Festival 9/21

Attention makers, artists, builders and lovers of the Harvest Festival: It is time to start thinking about Scarecrows!

The 27th annual Piedmont Harvest Festival will be held 11a-3p in Piedmont Park on Sunday, Sept. 21. The theme is "Under the Sea" — think sea creatures, mermaids, sunken pirate ships, and more!

Each year, Piedmont's elementary students gather to design and build incredible scarecrow structures that are auctioned during the Harvest Festival in "Scarecrow Alley" as a fundraiser for the elementary schools.

All proceeds from the scarecrow silent auction and carnival are directed by the Piedmont Education Foundation (PEF) to the tri-schools (Wildwood, Beach and Havens). Last year’s event raised $28,000 to help fund art, music, theater and counseling services.

  • Wildwood needs volunteers to help lead their classes in creating a scarecrow. Reach out to your class’s room parent(s) if you are interested in getting involved. We need helpers with all kinds of skills — builders, organizers, suppliers, transporters and cheerleaders all welcome!

  • PEF needs volunteers to help run stations at the festival: The Piedmont Education Foundation can also use lots of hands for set-up, running carnival games, clean-up, and more – middle and high schoolers are encouraged to join in too and can earn volunteer hours. A signup link from PEF is forthcoming, be on the lookout!

Questions? Please email your Wildwood Harvest Festival reps, Carolyn Pan and Vic Manley.

If you’ve never been to Harvest Festival before, enjoy some photos of past Scarecrow Alleys (attached) to get an idea!
