Message from Ms. Lahey
Hello Hembree Springs Families,
I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend! That extra day of rest and relaxation was much appreciated—and I was especially thrilled with the season opener for my Georgia Bulldogs.
This week, we've been focused on finalizing teacher and leader goals for the year, and I'm excited to share that our data continues to show steady improvement. At Hembree, we are deeply committed to excellence, and our teachers are working tirelessly to deliver engaging instruction that drives meaningful academic growth.
I'm especially looking forward to our first STEM and Star Night tonight from 7:00–9:00 PM. It promises to be a fun and enriching evening for families, and I hope to see many of you there!
Also, mark your calendars—Hembree Springs will host the Community Board Meeting on Thursday, September 11 at 9:30 AM. This is a great opportunity to hear updates from the district and meet our board representative, Sara Gillespie.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead. Go Dawgs!
Warm Regards,
Nancy Lahey

Volunteer Opportunities and Sign-up
As the school year gets under way, we can’t wait to bring you all the fun events and initiatives we have in store! Many hands make light work and this is a great opportunity for you to feel connected to our wonderful school community and make a difference.
We are looking for volunteers to help on different committees. From Trunk or Treat, the Silent Auction and Family Dance to the new International Night, teacher appreciation, 5th grade promotion, media center helpers and everything in between, there is a little bit of opportunity for every availability!
Here is the link to our Google form for volunteer interest https://docs.google.com/.../1FAIpQLSc1hgOVGyF.../viewform...
Filling it out doesn’t obligate you to anything, but it guides us in seeing what your interests are. Our VP of Volunteers will reach out to you shortly!
Reflections
Keep those Reflections entries coming!
Thanks to all the parents who have been submitting their students' entry forms for the PTA Reflections Art Contest!! We can't wait to see what everyone has created! If you haven't turned in an entry form, we ask that you wait to send it in with your child's creation. We have put a bright orange bin in the front entrance of the school. And if you can please make sure to put your students' full name and grade on the back of their piece or label it in whatever way you think suits it best. That way we can ensure we have all the information to submit it. PTA sent home a paper copy of the form in Friday Folders recently, but there is a digital version you can print out too here https://georgiapta.org/media/attachments/2025/09/03/fillable-student-entry-form_reflections.pdf
Just a reminder, we are hosting art workshops Sept. 17, 18 and 19 in the school cafeteria from 7:10 a.m. - 7:40 a.m. for kids to brainstorm and work on a piece to enter. We will have art supplies and helpers, including our Reflections Chair Lauren LaFleur. But, parents, we would love your participation, too! Please check out this Signup Genius to see if you can volunteer at a timeslot to work with the kids. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C054FADAD2FAAFD0-58016873-reflections?fbclid=IwY2xjawMmrVhleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETEwbTJwQjRZWFdyYVZ3emwzAR5Vg_gHtHitbkYGD9tx5qf0yDg624rGb1bgqGRCSrK9_xLcJD_m8OMgWQgJqg_aem_XDzuUBr18_h5yTMDyjOBLg#/
This is a great opportunity especially if your own child would like to create alongside you!

Student Success Skills for 25-26--New!
Student Success Skills (A Sense of Belonging)
One of the Student Success Skills students will be developing this year is a sense of belonging.
What does this mean? It means understanding that they can be part of a group. When students feel a sense of belonging at school, they feel included, accepted, valued, and encouraged by others. It also means they can help others feel like they belong too - by including, accepting, valuing, and encouraging them.
Students will also learn about friendships, relationships, how to use support systems, and how to make positive social contributions.
Examples: Students may feel like they belong with their families because their families love them. They may feel like they belong with their friends because friends enjoy doing similar things together. Students can also help others feel like they belong by inviting them to play or simply spending time with them.
How You Can Support at Home: Families can encourage a sense of belonging by spending time together, celebrating each child’s strengths, and showing appreciation for one another. You can also help your child practice including others by inviting a classmate to join in a game, asking about new friends, or modeling kindness in your own relationships.
Annual PTA Meeting
Join the PTA for its General Meeting Tuesday, Sept. 9 on TEAMS!
Please join us for the first General PTA meeting of the year! Meeting starts at 6:30PM, immediately following the Title One Updates. This meeting is important as we discuss and approve our budget for the year, updates on all the fun events planned, and time for questions/comments. Join us virtually at http://bit.ly/45y2agW.
Updated--Join the PTA
Join the PTA, donate to the Annual Fund, or Both!
We are at 70% of our goal for PTA memberships and getting much closer to 250 members, but we need your support!!
Remember, memberships are just $10. Renew for this school year or become a new member. You can add a spouse/partner, student or grandparent! While you are joining via TOTEM, you can also add a donation to our Annual Fund.
Here's the link to join: https://jointotem.com/ga/roswell/hembree-springs-es-pta.
Your contributions help us keep our events free and support students and teachers alike. This is becoming increasingly important with public education facing cuts. Becoming a PTA member doesn't obligate you to anything! If you don't have time/desire to volunteer, you don't need to.
School Nutrition
Family Engagement Thursdays
Families! YOU are your child’s first and most influential teacher. As such you have so much to offer your student! To encourage family engagement at home, we are offering family engagement Thursdays. Each week there will be (1) activity to do at home to be completed prior to Friday. We’ll list the activities for the month in Hembree Highlights and offer reminders via social media. Your student will have the opportunity to receive a *bonus* Hawk’s ticket for participating (look out for more details from your teacher) We’ll include tips and tricks to get the conversation started and reinforce learning from the school day. Please spend anywhere from 10-20 minutes with your child engaging with them around their day at school and encouraging their social and emotional skills. We’ll also encourage you to practice other skills inclusive of Math and ELA. Please feel free to reach out to me Lucy Gilbert, Title I Parent Liaison (gilbertl2@fultonschools.org) with any questions.
Del Título I
Jueves de Participación Familiar
¡Familias!
Beanstack Reading App
Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. You can always find your child's lunch number/student number in infinite campus or email Mrs. Soberanis: soberanis@fultonschools.org. Happy Reading!
